Position Summary
The Manufacturing Laboratory Technician provides technical laboratory support to PMX manufacturing operations by performing mechanical dimensional and chemical testing of metal samples. This position is responsible for accurately conducting laboratory testing documenting and communicating results maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring testing is completed in accordance with established work instructions ASTM standards and quality requirements.
The Lab Technician works closely with Production Quality Research & Development and other departments to provide timely and accurate information that supports product quality and manufacturing processes.
Primary Responsibilities
- Follow all safety rules and policies and work in a manner that protects yourself and others from hazards and injuries.
- Perform mechanical and dimensional testing of metal samples in accordance with established work instructions specifications and applicable ASTM standards.
- Prepare metal samples for testing using routers shears and other small power tools and equipment.
- Prepare and analyze solid metal samples to determine chemical composition using laboratory testing equipment.
- Operate monitor and maintain laboratory testing and analytical equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
- Accurately record enter and maintain laboratory test data and results in applicable databases and systems.
- Communicate test results and pertinent information to Production Quality R&D and other appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance equipment checks and calibration activities to maintain laboratory equipment in proper working condition.
- Identify equipment or testing issues and communicate concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain retention sample inventory and ensure samples are properly identified organized and retained for required time periods.
- Assist Quality and Research & Development with special testing research projects process evaluations and other laboratory protocols.
- Maintain a clean organized and safe laboratory work environment.
- Follow established laboratory procedures work instructions quality requirements and documentation practices.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to laboratory processes testing methods equipment and efficiency.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Associate degree in a science-related field and/or 3 years of laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Manufacturing metals metallurgy chemistry or related industrial laboratory experience preferred.
- General knowledge of personal computers and experience using Microsoft Office or similar software.
- Ability to accurately enter record and interpret technical data.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
- Good communication organizational analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize and plan work effectively while meeting production and laboratory deadlines.
- Ability to properly operate laboratory testing and measurement equipment.
- Familiarity with ASTM testing methods and standards preferred.
- Ability to work independently while also effectively working as part of a team.
- Willingness and ability to work a 12-hour rotating schedule.
