The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Public Safety has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Manager Public Safety.

Core Job Summary:

The Manager of Public Safety for UHealth Tower is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the hospitals security team and supporting the Director of Public Safety in executing strategic goals. This role ensures effective supervision scheduling incident response and training of officers to maintain a safe and secure environment for patients staff visitors and the broader hospital community.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Oversees daily hospital security operations for UHealth Tower including staffing deployment scheduling supervision patrol coverage and operational readiness to ensure consistent and effective security coverage throughout the hospital.

  • Manages and coordinates the response to security incidents workplace violence behavioral events emergencies and other threats impacting patients visitors team members and hospital operations.

  • Ensures appropriate response escalation documentation investigation and follow-up.

  • Oversees security-related investigations involving theft vandalism threats workplace violence suspicious activity property loss and other criminal or safety-related incidents.

  • Coordinates with hospital leadership and law enforcement as appropriate and ensures accurate and timely reporting and preservation of relevant evidence.

  • Supports regulatory and accreditation readiness for hospital security operations ensuring compliance with University policies Joint Commission CMS HIPAA life safety standards workplace violence requirements and other applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.

  • Coordinates the development and implementation of NIMS-compliant incident command structures to integrate University and UHealth emergency response plans with external response agencies.

  • Supports HICS operations and oversees security participation in emergency preparedness activities drills exercises and disaster response.

  • Monitors security operations through key performance indicators and other performance measures including response times incident trends staffing and overtime patrol activity training compliance report completion and other operational metrics.

  • Uses data to identify risks evaluate effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.

  • Partners closely with hospital administration clinical and nursing leadership Emergency Management Facilities and law enforcement to address security concerns emergency preparedness workplace violence prevention operational risks special events and other public safety matters.

  • Maintain operational oversight of security technologies including video surveillance access control visitor management panic/duress alarms and related systems.

  • Supports regulatory and accreditation readiness for hospital security operations.

  • Manages staffing scheduling overtime equipment and other departmental resources with appropriate attention to budget operational efficiency service levels and effective deployment of personnel and resources.

  • Supports the implementation and oversight of specialized public safety programs and initiatives.

  • Establishes and continuously evaluates internal controls policies procedures post orders emergency plans and operational standards.

  • Fosters a culture of service integrity professionalism accountability safety and continuous improvement through visible leadership daily engagement communication coaching and collaboration with frontline staff and hospital stakeholders.

Core Qualifications:

Bachelors degree required.

Minimum 57 years of experience in public safety or healthcare security with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.

Knowledge Skills and Attitudes:

  • Strong working knowledge of hospital safety operations security protocols and compliance standards.

  • Ability to lead shift-based teams and respond decisively under pressure.

  • Excellent organizational communication and report-writing skills.

  • Proficiency with security systems (VMS access control panic alarms etc.).

  • Commitment to continuous training and professional development of staff.

  • Ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders including clinical teams patients and external responders.

  • Strong ethics sound judgment and a mission-driven approach to public safety.

Any relevant education certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
