Job Summary:

Reporting to the Assistant General Manager the Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Maintenance Department ensuring the safe efficient and continuous operation of all plant assets. This includes managing preventive and corrective maintenance programs optimizing production systems and supervising maintenance staff. The Manager develops and implements maintenance strategies ensures compliance with safety and quality standards and manages budgets for maintenance activities. The role requires leadership to drive performance and improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor activities and processes to ensure asset uptime and meet budgeted production rates. Adjust workforce schedules and coverage to maintain operational efficiency and implement continuous improvements to enhance facility performance.
  • Understand and manage the costs associated with maintenance operations. Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager to develop strategic plans future capital projects and provide expertise on process and personnel improvements.
  • Lead and develop the maintenance team ensuring a focus on safety quality efficiency and professionalism. Guide the team towards meeting performance expectations and contribute feedback that impacts company growth and profitability.
  • Ensure consistent application of company values and professionalism. Apply knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement to maintain fairness and consistency across operations.
  • Ensure product safety legality and quality per the corporate We CARE statement.
  • Align with business and corporate maintenance goals clearly communicating these goals to the maintenance organization and ensuring alignment with the companys objectives.
  • Develop and implement strategic directions for reliability and maintenance including creating work processes to achieve asset utilization goals.
  • Oversee plant maintenance personnel including conducting performance evaluations and coaching. Support employee career development manage staffing needs and ensure the maintenance department is adequately resourced.
  • Create and manage the annual maintenance budget covering maintenance supplies and contractor costs. Track expenditures and seek cost-saving opportunities.
  • Manage outside contractors ensuring the maintenance work is completed on schedule and within budget. Coordinate services materials and rental equipment as needed.
  • Ensure that Storeroom inventory is optimized to meet business needs and coordinate with the Storeroom Administrator.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections mitigate risks and ensure safety environmental and health regulations compliance.
  • Develop maintain and improve a comprehensive preventive maintenance program to support production goals and coordinate with the production department.
  • Oversee the maintenance of facility buildings grounds utilities equipment and systems including salt storage solar salt screening and rock salt bagging.
  • Maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular reports on maintenance performance costs and equipment reliability.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements and best practices to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Manage special projects as assigned and actively participate in management team initiatives offering leadership when needed.
  • Oversee the hiring training and disciplinary actions for maintenance staff. Enforce facility attendance policies to ensure operational needs are met.
  • Foster a culture of respect inclusion cooperation and responsibility within the maintenance team and across the company.
  • Inputs and follows up on work orders for facility maintenance through the Maintenance Management

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • 5-10 years of experience in maintenance management with a strong background in manufacturing or salt processing environments.
  • Proficient in maintenance management software (e.g. SAP) with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. Knowledge of mechanical electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Strong leadership skills focusing on safety quality and team development. Experience in managing union environments is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to lead and motivate a diverse team.

Work Environment:

  • This position requires an individual who can handle the stress of a fast-paced packaging and processing operation responding to repairs on short notice and during off-hours.
  • Is flexible when scheduling maintenance work to match production demands and schedules.
  • Works in a combination of office work and standing for prolonged periods; performs office or clerical duties including the use of office tools; frequently travels between office and plant environments of varied temperatures and humidity; climbs stairs; and wears personal protective equipment as required.
  • Works in a manufacturing and packaging plant environment requiring significant walking and travel in a large facility.
