TITLE: MAINTENANCE HELPER - HVAC

TYPE: Non-Union Cycle III

Salary: Per the Terms of Employment for Non-Union Personnel Cycel III

WORK SCHEDULE: Up to 20 hours per week

REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance and Assistant Director of Maintenance

OBJECTIVE:We are looking for a dedicated HVAC Helper to assist our licensed HVAC Technician while improving their own skills. The responsibilities of an HVAC Helper include completing all tasks assigned by the HVAC Technician which may include assisting with installations troubleshooting repairs and air flow and air conditioning systems and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Learning from the Craftsmen and completing all assigned duties.
  2. Assist with identifying analyzing troubleshooting and assisting with repairs of equipment and HVAC faults.
  3. Assist with interpreting blueprints and schematics.
  4. Assist with installing servicing and fixing roof units for heating and air conditioning systems.
  5. Assist with determining the proper hand tools and equipment for completing HVAC installation and repairs and carrying out various maintenance duties.
  6. Assist with repair and replacement of air ducts.
  7. Assist with tools equipment and supplies from the project site according to orders.
  8. Assist with performing preventative maintenance on HVAC systems and associated equipment.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Training and Experience

  1. A high school diploma or a currently enrolled CTE program.
  2. Vocational training may be advantageous.
  3. Willingness to learn on the job go through training and earn a qualification as an HVAC Technician.
  4. Adept at using the basic tools of the trade.

  4. Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  5. He/she must be able to take direction and have the ability to communicate effectively with his/ her supervisor.
  6. Applicants must also be able to climb and work from a ladder and be comfortable working with heights.
  7. HVAC Helpers are also required to be able to lift heavy materials bend repeatedly and be able to work with hand and power tools safely.

ADA and Minimum Qualifications to Perform Essential Job Functions

  1. Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers copiers adding machines etc. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift carry push and pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Must be able to stand crouch and bend over for a long period of time at intervals throughout the day.
  2. Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data people or things.
  3. Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions assignments or directions to subordinates or assistants.
  4. Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence reports forms newsletters schedules manuals invoices requisitions menus recipes journals etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence reports forms evaluations procedures charts surveys articles bid specifications brochures news releases handbooks budgets etc. using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation grammar diction and style. Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise voice control and confidence.
  5. Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  6. Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information to explain procedures to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical legal accounting and marketing terminology.
  7. Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to apply the principles of algebra and geometry.
  8. Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length width and shape.

  10. Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
  11. Interpersonal: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
  12. Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk (expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words) and hear (perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to communicate via telephone or radio.
