Introduction

TheState of Connecticut Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is currently recruiting for one (1) full-time Maintainer position at Platt Technical High School in Milford CT.


CTECS is seeking a dependable and hands-on Maintainer to join the team at Platt Technical High this role you will play an essential part in keeping the school grounds walkways and facilities safe clean functional and welcoming for students staff and visitors.


You will have the opportunity to work outdoors and operate a variety of hand and power equipment while performing groundskeeping landscaping snow removal and general maintenance duties. From mowing lawns and trimming shrubs to clearing walkways maintaining drainage areas moving supplies and performing preventive maintenance and minor repairs on grounds equipment your work will make a visible difference every day.

  • Full-time 2nd Shift 37.5 Hours per week
  • Monday Friday 2:15 pm 10:15 pm
  • Note: While CTECS follows a ten-month academic calendar this position is year-round.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for performing basic tasks of an unskilled nature (e.g. requiring little prior experience or training; most tasks can be learned quickly on the job) in one or several of the following areas:

  • Building and equipment maintenance (operational and remedial);
  • Grounds care;
  • Food services;
  • Operation of trucks of less than five (5) ton capacity;
  • Parking garage.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITY
  • Skills
    • interpersonal skills;

  • Ability to
    • follow oral and written instructions;
    • learn policies and procedures;
    • operate care for and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any experience and training which provide the knowledge skills and abilities listed above.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Maintenance experience in a school setting or large building.
  • Experience with lawn care such as mowing grass and managing weeds and brush.
  • Experience removing snow and ice from stairways and walkways around large buildings.
  • Experience performing minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses permits and/or certifications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength stamina physical agility visual and auditory acuity and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the class.
  • A physical examination may be required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to extreme weather conditions and risk of injury from equipment and assaultive and/or abusive patients and/or clients.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to complete an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines for operations and maintenance during employment in this class. Incumbents may be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
