Job Summary

DPP is seeking a Machinist II for an opportunity with our client in the Aerospace and Defense Manufacturing industry.

Work location: Onsite in Goleta CA
Duration: 12 months
Terms: W2 Contract
Work authorization: US Citizen

Position Summary:

Support our Machine Shop department.
As a member of the Machine Shop department youll work in a fast-paced team environment alongside fellow machinists design engineers and quality inspectors.
In this job role the machinist will set up operate and machine using a variety of machine tools such as lathes (manual) mills (CNC and manual) and precision grinders to make metal parts mechanisms tools or machines to exact tolerances and dimensions.
Machinists will interpret blueprints sketches and engineering specifications; determine sequence of operations number of cuts required and method of setup; use a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work tooling feeds and speeds; measure mark and scribe dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining; fit and assemble precision parts into mechanical equipment and determine material parts and equipment required.
Some machines may be numerically controlled.
Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

Responsibilities:

Set up and operates a variety of machine tools such as manual lathes manual mills CNC mills and precision grinders to make metal parts mechanisms tools or machines to exact tolerances and dimensions.
Responsible for quality of the product by performing both in-process and final part inspections using a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
Make standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work tooling feeds and speeds.
Care and maintenance of the equipment.
Assuring tooling and materials readiness.
Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Provide training to others in all aspects of Mill/Lathe equipment setup operations and maintenance.
Strong interpersonal communication skills with ability to work with others at all levels of the organization.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to prioritize.
Excellent time management skills.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to work in a dynamic fast-paced diverse environment.

Required Qualifications:

Familiarity with CNC Mills and machine programming software (example Mastercam CAMworks etc.).
Must have experience running manual machines and performing set-ups.
Ability to read and interpret production specifications production diagrams assembly drawings and technical specifications.
Experience in following written set-up instructions and /or performing unique set-ups.
Experience fabricating component parts where set-ups are non-routine and tolerances are difficult to acquire and maintain.
Able to work in a standing position for extended time periods.
Experience in complex measurements and advanced shop math calculations relative to tolerances dimensions tooling and feeds and speeds.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Machining experience (3 years).
Able to lift or move a minimum of 35 -50 lbs. for up to 12 hours per day; pushing or pulling 35 -50 lbs. occasionally throughout the workday.
Must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Fanuc and HAAS Controllers preferred.
4 years experience on 3 Axis CNC machines 4 and 5 Axis is a plus
Proficiency in CAM programming with Mastercam preferred.
