Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY:
Operating ball form thread grinding on OD/ID machines. Responsible for producing parts from manufacturing prints and setting-up the machine. Figuring fit and function of the nut to screw size and general maintenance of the machines are also part of this position.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Set up and operate equipment as directed appropriate tooling/gages for part production/inspection
Complete customer product requirements as associated with work order.
Perform in-process inspection as required to ensure 100% quality product.
Identify discrepancies in estimated setup and run times and resolve with leadership.
Responsible for document and data control of programs tool lists and other related data with respect to job packets and M2M data.
Maintain basic equipment and work area on a daily basis in a clean and orderly condition.
Responsible for cleaning and performing general maintenance on equipment.
Responsible for maintaining a clean organized work area.
Responsible for stopping production if a part or process problem is identified and notifying leader or quality personnel.
Initiate nonconforming product procedures when necessary.
Assist in training of other machinists.
Responsible for identification and elimination of any unnecessary waste.
Participates in corrective and preventative activities as required.
Support and adhere to the Quality and Environmental Health and Safety policies.
Responsible to participate in continuous improvement and associated training.
Performs other duties as assigned.

What you will be doing as a Machinist:

In this role you can expect to set up and process components on Manual and CNC machines ensuring the safe and proper use of equipment and precision tools. Youll collaborate closely with experts and peers across the Machine Shop maintaining a professional and respectful environment. Your work will be crucial in performing efficient set-ups and repairs ensuring compliance and safety in a clean organized workspace.

Your responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):

  • Optimize Machine Efficiency: Keep machines running smoothly maximizing spindle time (machine run time) to meet daily output targets
  • Support Factory Systems: Ensure safety quality and operational systems are maintained and functional
  • Equipment Setup: Set up manual and CNC equipment measure and verify setups for successful results
  • Tool Management: Change cutting tools adjust machine feeds and speeds for optimal performance
  • Code Operations: Run and edit G and M codes on applicable machines and equipment

What you need to be successful:

  • Education:
    • A high school diploma an equivalent certificate or a bronze level WorkKeys certification is required
    • A technical education is helpful
  • 2 years Machining Experience required in any of the following disciplines:
    • ID/OD/Jig/Surface Grinding Hone
    • CNC Mill CNC Lathe
    • Manual Mill Manual Lathe
  • 2 years Programming experience required with any of the following:
    • G-Code/M-Code
    • Gibbs Cad SolidWorks Feature Cam
    • Heidenhain Fanuc Siemens Haas Controls
  • Equipment Proficiency is helpful with any of the following:
    • Precision Measurement Tools Hand Tools Manual Mills
    • Okuma Haas Matsuura Centroid Hermle DMG Fryer (Lathe and Mill)
    • Kellenberger Studer Usach DeVlieg Moore Jig Grinder Sunnen Hone
  • Additional skills that are helpful:
    • Basic math and ability to read dimensional instructions
    • Adaptability to change
    • Knowledge of GD&T basic machine operation and blueprint reading

EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent certificate

EXPERIENCE:

General programming skills
Basic shop math (addition subtraction trigonometry)
Strong blueprint and part print reading and GD&T skills.
Ability to perform part inspection using inspection equipment
Use of measuring tools
Experience with machine operation for ball form CNC or Manual Thread Grinders is preferred.
Good understanding of gage calibration
Machine setup
Machine running
Use of small hand tools
Ability to perform own set-ups helpful
Basic understanding of Quality Systems
Relative Machining experience preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work may involve lifting of materials and product up to 30 pounds. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time as this is a high energy position. Working in the manufacturing environment requires the use of safety equipment to include; but not limited to safety glasses hearing protection and gloves.
