Job Summary

The Cornell University Hospital for Animals (CUHA) seeks an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician to serve as the LVT Section Supervisor within our Small Animal Emergency Service. This role combines clinical excellence with frontline leadership overseeing daily technician operations mentoring staff and students coordinating workflows and ensuring exceptional patient care in a fast-paced academic teaching hospital. The job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and supervise the daily operations of the Emergency LVT team.
  • Mentor coach and develop veterinary technicians in the hospital by assessing and providing performance feedback.
  • Serve as a technical resource for technicians clinicians and veterinary students while fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Coordinate emergency patient flow assist with patient care as needed and ensure accurate medical documentation.
  • Partner with faculty and hospital leadership to support teaching clinical investigations and process improvements.

Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire which will be paid for by the department.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Veterinary Technology and New York State LVT licensure (or eligibility for licensure) and five years of experience as a Licensed Veterinary Technician including experience in emergency or specialty practice or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience leading mentoring or supervising veterinary technicians or clinical support staff.
  • Strong leadership communication conflict resolution and organizational skills with the ability to effectively coordinate team workflows in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to coach and develop others while fostering accountability and collaboration.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including prolonged standing lifting and safely restraining animals weighing more than 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supervising or coordinating a veterinary technician team.
  • Experience working in an academic veterinary teaching hospital.
  • Experience developing training programs competency assessments or clinical onboarding materials.

Important Details about the Position

  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca NY.
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship now or in the future for this position.

The Cornell University Hospital for Animals provides 24-hour care for pets 365 days of the year. The schedule for this position requires flexibility to ensure that adequate patient care and service needs are provided without interruption or exception. Schedule will require/include weekend holiday and night shifts as well as weekend day shifts. Cross-training with other services to support business continuity will be expected as time/business need allows. If business needs change a position/individual may be realigned within the CUHA to a different shift or service.
