Position Description: Speech and Language Therapist

Position Goal: The Speech and Language Therapist is responsible for screening assessing diagnosing and treating disorders related to speech language communication swallowing and voice.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors degree
  2. Current Massachusetts DESE license as a Speech and Language Therapist
  3. Understanding of the Individual Education Program (IEP) process
  4. Ability to work as part of an educational team

Reports to: School Principal and Administrator of Student Services

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct screenings for preschool/kindergarten students and other students as needed.
  2. Complete standard assessments for children referred for a speech and language evaluation. The therapist will also complete three-year evaluations as required by a students IEP.
  3. Complete formal written evaluations and share such results at a students team meeting. If a student is found to have a speech and language disorder the therapist shall recommend ways to best meet the students needs including setting goals.
  4. Work directly with students individually or in groups on students individual speech and language goals and objectives.
  5. Maintain data on student progress and complete progress notes each quarter of the school year.
  6. Work with all team members including classroom teachers and other therapists and provide consultation services as required.
  7. Complete professional development activities to seek knowledge on current best practices.
  8. Maintain students FM systems as needed.
