This recruitment will be used to fill five part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) for the Lifeguard position at Oregon State University (OSU).

Position Duties:

• Recognize and prevent hazardous behaviors or situations before they develop into emergencies.
• Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies in accordance with the facilitys Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
• Complete all incident accident and rescue report forms accurately and promptly.
• Demonstrate strong situational awareness alert posture and professionalism at all times.
• Strictly follow all policies and procedures outlined in the American Red Cross R.24 Lifeguard Manual.
• Enforce facility rules consistently and respectfully to maintain a safe aquatic environment.
• Understand basic water chemistry and how it affects aquatic facility operations.
• Maintain a clean orderly lifeguard station and assist with general facility upkeep as needed.
• Wear the approved uniform to ensure clear visibility and identification for patrons.
• Stay informed by regularly reviewing the lifeguard shift schedule (W2W) email and staff communication channels (Canvas and Teams).
• Collaborate with the Aquatic Coordinator Head Lifeguard and Senior Aquatics Associate to support daily operations
• Participate actively in the substitution system to support team coverage.
• Maintain all required lifeguard certifications as outlined in the employment contract.
• Practice rescue skills and maintain personal fitness levels weekly to ensure readiness.
• Attend required in-service trainings and continue developing competencies in aquatic safety
• Be available for scheduled shifts during winter spring and fall terms and reliably fulfill assigned work hours.
• Assist with paperwork forms and administrative tasks as needed for the position.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Aquatic Coordinator to support smooth facility operations.

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered full-time by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by theOffice of International Services(OIS) and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Required Qualifications:

• Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard (Deep Water) First Aid CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and DRS Bloodborne Pathogens certifications is required before employment begins and will be provided by the department upon hiring
• Experience working as a lifeguard
• Mechanical and/or chemical operating experience
• Customer service skills with patrons
• Great organizational skills
• Professional oral and written communication skills
• Outstanding teamwork skills
