Licensed Elevator Mechanic Commercial Elevators (Independent Company)
Location: New York NY Employment Type: Full Time License Required:New York State Elevator Mechanic License
Position Overview
An established independent elevator company in New York is seeking a skilled and licensed Elevator Mechanic to service repair troubleshoot and modernize commercial elevator equipment. This role is ideal for a mechanic who enjoys working on non proprietary systems has strong diagnostic skills and values a company culture where technicians have autonomy support and direct communication with leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance troubleshooting and repairs on commercial traction and hydraulic elevators.
Respond to service calls diagnose issues and return equipment to safe operation.
Complete modernization work including component replacements wiring adjustments and testing.
Install and upgrade elevator equipment following ASME A17.1 NYC DOB and company safety standards.
Conduct required safety tests inspections and code compliant adjustments.
Document all work performed parts used and equipment status accurately.
Communicate with dispatch supervisors and building management regarding job status and needs.
Participate in on call rotation as required.
Maintain tools equipment and company vehicle in proper working condition.
Qualifications
Valid NYS Elevator Mechanic License (Required).
3 years of experience working on commercial elevators.
Strong troubleshooting and mechanical/electrical diagnostic skills.
Ability to read wiring diagrams schematics and technical manuals.
Experience with non proprietary equipment (GAL MCE Motion SmartRise etc.).
Knowledge of NYC DOB ASME A17.1 and OSHA safety requirements.
Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs and work in pits shafts and machine rooms.
Valid drivers license.
Preferred Experience
High rise commercial building experience.
Background with both service routes and modernization projects.
Experience with a mix of OEM and independent equipment.
