Description of Job Duty:

Under the direction of the Director of Archives and Special Collections the Access and Metadata Archive Assistant supports the Archives digital collections program through the digitization capture description and management of digitized and born-digital archival materials. The position manages day-to-day digitization and digital asset management workflows; creates enhances and remediates metadata; ingests digital materials into Preservica; performs quality control; and prepares digital collections for discovery and harvesting through external platforms such as the Digital Library of Tennessee and the Digital Public Library of America.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
  • Digitizes processes and ingests digitized and born-digital archival materials into Preservica or other digital asset management systems ensuring files meet established quality standards.
  • Creates enhances and remediates metadata for digital collections including descriptive structural and administrative metadata using archival standards and available historical information.
  • Performs quality control and digital remediation of scanned images digital files and metadata using software such as Adobe Photoshop Oxygen duplicate-detection tools and scanning applications.
  • Prepares and maintains digital collections for external harvesting and discovery through providers such as the Digital Library of Tennessee and the Digital Public Library of America.
  • Oversees Digitization Services operations including project planning digitization workflows equipment and software use vendor projects and the maintenance of scanning metadata and ingest procedures.
  • Recruits trains schedules supervises and evaluates student employees assigns work monitors productivity and quality maintains time and attendance records and recommends hiring or separation as appropriate.
  • Provides Archives public services and facility support including reading room monitoring reference assistance environmental monitoring integrated pest management re-shelving opening and closing and maintaining secure and orderly Archives spaces.
  • Collaborates with Archives staff on research special projects outreach and professional development.
  • Applies new software and solutions for expediting work processes.
  • Coordinates collaborates and worksalongsidelibrarydepartmentsto achieve shared goals and responsibilities.

Work Hours:

Typical hours are Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary:

Commensurate with education and experience. Level S4 Grade 8.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma (or GED) with five years of related experience an associates degree (60 credit hours) from an accredited institution with three years of experience or a bachelors degree from an accredited institution with one year of related professional experience. A masters degree from an accredited institution in a related field can be substituted for the experience requirement.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors degree from an accredited institution. Knowledge and experience with archival principles practices and standards. Research skills and knowledge of Upper Cumberland professional experience in an Archive.
