The Library Program Assistant supports the development and delivery of library programs and services with a focus on children and teen engagement. This role assists in program setup and execution and maintains an organized library environment. The position requires flexibility collaboration and a commitment to excellent public service. This is a part-time nonexempt position reporting to the Library Director.
- Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Support the Childrens and Teen Program Coordinators with the implementation of programs for all age groups including setup and takedown of tables and chairs as well as general cleanup.
- Assist in the planning and preparation of the librarys annual Summer Reading Program.
- Participate in community outreach efforts and represent the library at local events.
- Help maintain the organization and cleanliness of the Childrens Library by shelving books and keeping displays tidy.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
- Possession of good interpersonal skills and ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationships with the public peers and supervisors.
- Ability to communicate clearly concisely and effectively in both verbal and written forms with diverse populations.
- Ability to adhere to library procedures and policies.
- Ability to use various office equipment including but not limited to a personal computer telephone copy machine smart devices etc. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Word Outlook) and the internet is required. Must be able to learn new computer applications especially related to library software.
- Must be able to follow instruction and work unsupervised.
- Must be willing to work evenings and Saturdays.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience in community programming is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and/or experience that demonstrate the required knowledge and skills will also be considered.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Physical mobility and strength to bend stoop lift and carry materials as needed.
- Sufficient speech and hearing to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
- Manual dexterity hand-eye coordination and visual acuity to handle materials and operate a computer.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Work is conducted indoors in a climate-controlled environment with a moderate noise level.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Occasional travel may be required to support outreach and other library-related activities.
