Job Summary
Position open for 2026-2027School Calendar
Library Aide is a paraprofessional who assists the Library Media Specialist by performing clerical tasks and supporting the instructional program.
Reports to: Building Principal and Library Media Specialist
Pay Rate: $14.25 per hour
Terms of Employment: School year term
Qualifications:
Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of two years of post secondary education or training preferred.
Experience:
- Strong computer skills including spreadsheet computer software and Google Office Suite.
- Experience in working with and supervising groups of children.
- Familiar with using a library.
General Expectations:
- Stay abreast of current young adult reading trends and is knowledgeable of the librarys holdings.
- Enjoy working with high school students.
- Prepare the Library Media Center for services on a daily basis with needed supplies.
- Responsible for shelving straightening and shelf reading of library materials.
- Maintain the physical appearance and cleanliness of the library.
- Set up displays; create bulletin boards.
- Pull library materials which need to be mended discarded and/or replaced.
- Process new library materials received for circulation.
- Perform a variety of clerical and computer-related tasks as assigned.
- Maintain the centralized computerized school library catalog system.
- Sort returned materials by location of library to which assigned.
- Fulfill interlibrary loan requests.
- Check to see if returned materials are overdue or are on reserve; send timely notices to patrons.
- Examine returned materials for obvious damage.
- Collect and record all library fines.
- Record receipt of payment for lost or damaged materials.
- Create purchase orders for materials and supplies.
- Assist in training student aides in circulation procedures and other work routines.
- Maintain attendance records of students who are assigned to the library for supervision.
- Tutor students in computer use and library procedures; provide information and answer questions; may oversee use of photocopying equipment.
- Process new students by adding them to all appropriate software programs.
- Perform reliably dependably with a good record of attendance punctuality flexibility and time management.
- Develop job-related abilities skills and knowledge.
- Ability to perform responsibilities without necessity of close supervision.
- Maintain a generally positive attitude.
- Create a friendly approachable atmosphere and environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the School Library Media Specialist.
