ABOUT LEARNINGWORKS AFTERSCHOOL (LWAS)
LearningWorks Afterschool (LWAS) provides high-quality academic and enrichment programming for elementary students. LWAS partners with local school districts to help students strengthen foundational literacy and mathematics skills improve school engagement and develop the social-emotional skills necessary for academic success.
LearningWorks Afterschool is funded primarily through 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grants and is delivered in partnership with local school districts.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Teaching Assistant works alongside the Site Coordinator and classroom Teachers to provide academic support to elementary students participating in the LearningWorks Afterschool Program.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys building meaningful relationships with children and believes every student can succeed when provided with encouragement consistency and individualized support. The Teaching Assistant plays an important role in creating a structured welcoming classroom where students feel safe supported and ready to learn.
WHAT YOULL DO
- Support teachers in delivering engaging academic instruction and enrichment activities that reinforce school-day learning
- Provide small-group and one-on-one academic support
- Work collaboratively with Teachers Site Coordinators and school staff to meet individual student needs
- Observe student progress and communicate success and concerns with Teachers and Teaching Site Coordinators
- Participate in weekly team meetings staff trainings and professional development opportunities
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- Experience working with youth; experience with elementary-aged students preferred
- Strong communication interpersonal organizational and time management skills
- Experience using technology including Microsoft Outlook Google Drive Suite Zoom and other educational technology platforms
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
- Some college preferred
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma
- Experience working with youth
