Job Summary

Leidos is seeking a Reliability Maintainability and Availability (RMA) Engineer to join a dynamic engineering team supporting the Federal Aviation Administrations (FAA) En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) program. ERAM is a mission-critical component of the National Airspace System (NAS) providing the technology that enables air traffic controllers to safely and efficiently manage high-altitude air traffic across the United States.

The RMA Engineer will support the engineering analysis and sustainment of complex aviation and air traffic management systems helping ensure they meet stringent reliability maintainability availability and operational performance requirements.

Primary Responsibilities

The RMA Engineer will provide systems engineering and analytical support to aviation ground systems and air traffic control programs. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop analyze and maintain Reliability Maintainability and Availability (RMA) requirements and specifications throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Perform system-level RMA modeling analysis and performance predictions to assess system reliability availability maintainability and operational performance.
  • Support system and design reviews providing RMA assessments and recommendations to identify risks and improve system performance.
  • Develop and support test plans procedures and evaluations to verify compliance with RMA requirements.
  • Perform failure analysis and trending identify root causes and systemic issues and support the development and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Support reliability growth initiatives by evaluating field performance failure trends and corrective-action effectiveness.
  • Analyze field maintenance operational and maintenance-data-collection information to assess system performance and identify opportunities for reliability and maintainability improvements.
  • Develop and evaluate system sustainment scenarios and provide RMA engineering support for lifecycle planning and operational availability assessments.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering hardware software maintenance logistics test and program teams to integrate RMA considerations throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Provide RMA engineering expertise in support of FAA-sponsored programs within the National Airspace System.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering Computer Science Mathematics or a related technical discipline with 48 years of relevant experience or a Masters degree with 26 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience applying systems engineering principles and processes throughout the system development lifecycle.
  • Experience with requirements development analysis documentation and management.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills with the ability to develop clear and concise engineering documentation.
  • Ability to analyze technical data identify trends and issues and communicate findings and recommendations to engineering and program stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment collaborating with systems hardware software test maintenance and program teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Reliability Maintainability and Availability (RMA) engineering including one or more of the following: reliability analysis maintainability analysis availability modeling failure analysis reliability predictions or lifecycle/sustainment analysis.
  • Experience supporting systems subject to government or industry RMA requirements standards and engineering processes.
  • Experience analyzing field performance maintenance failure or operational data to assess system reliability and identify performance trends.
  • Familiarity with aviation systems air traffic management systems or the National Airspace System (NAS).
  • Experience supporting FAA programs or other mission-critical government systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with both ground-based and airborne aviation systems and operational environments is highly desirable.

** This is a hybrid position which requires employee to be in the Gaithersburg MD office 2.5 days per week or 10 days per month**
