Position Overview
Reporting to the Site Lead you will serve as the mechanical engineering lead supporting a refinery-based small projects program. You will oversee mechanical engineering execution guide project teams and ensure designs meet client expectations industry codes safety requirements and schedule commitments.
Work Arrangement
Monday through Thursday onsite at the refinery
Fridays remote/work from home
Standard 5x8 work schedule
Located in Blaine Washington

Compensation:$110000 - $140000. Anticipated annual salary may vary based on skills experience qualifications and internal peer equity. The pay range listed for this position is based on the anticipated base compensation at the time of the posting.
Responsibilities & Expectations:
Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health safety and environmental issues ensuring zero harm to all employees clients and contractors.
Ensure all mechanical engineering designs meet applicable codes and standards including company standards API and ASME.
Supervise a staff of Mechanical Engineers providing training and guidance.
Participate in weekly project priority and resource meetings providing input for all mechanical projects.
Perform code calculations for ASME B31.1/B31.3 ASME BPVC Sec I and Sec VIII.
Prepare equipment and piping technical specification packages for vendor quotes and bid requests.
Perform technical bid evaluations and review vendor drawings.
Check drawings such as piping isometrics layouts section views pipe support details and other piping specialty items.
Select welding procedures NDE and testing requirements.
Select coating and insulation systems for equipment and piping.
Prepare the mechanical portion of construction packages.
Communicate clearly with contractors during scope development and installation activities.
Complete final job walk downs for mechanical acceptance of installed scope and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.
Interact effectively with all levels of employees clients and vendors.
Demonstrate strong customer focus with a commitment to building enduring relationships that yield customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Manage multiple projects with competing priorities consistently achieving goals delivering quality work and meeting timelines.

Requirements:
BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering and eight or more years of related experience.
Direct experience with Refinery/Industrial/Petrochemical projects.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently with little guidance and oversight.
Previous experience leading a group and managing workloads.
Experience estimating required hours to complete a design and preparing a bill of material or material take off (BOM/MTO).
Understanding of the need for coordination between other disciplines during design.
Success in interacting with clients vendor representatives project field personnel construction contractors and other staff.
Experience developing and reviewing technical documents and drawings to support the procurement or modification of stationary and rotating equipment.
Ability to create a scope of work document to communicate proper construction or installation of a design.
Familiarity with relevant refinery standards including ASME piping and pressure vessel code various API standards and the NBIC.
Experience with both design and engineering support of the fabrication of B31.3 process piping.
Ability to climb ladders and be comfortable at heights.
Industry Requirements:This role will require all or some of the following requirements at time of hire or during employment
HHFT Safety Training and current card or ability to obtain.
Client Safety Training and current badge or ability to obtain.
TWIC Certification and current card or ability to obtain. TWIC card must be obtained prior to start date or start date may need to be adjusted.
Background screening including previous employment education criminal history and driving record verification.
Participation in random drug and alcohol programs.
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
Previous site-based experience with Refinery/Industrial/Petrochemical projects.
PE license or ability to obtain PE in the state of Washington.
Onsite experience in a seconded position within a refinery or industrial facility.
Experience as a Lead Mechanical Engineer for Refinery/Industrial/Petrochemical projects (ideally site-based).
