Our client is seeking an experienced Lead Directional Driller/HDD Field Operations Lead to help build and grow its Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) division. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an individual who not only understands directional drilling operations but can also drive production lead crews and contribute to the long-term growth of the business.
The equipment crews and infrastructure are already in place. The company is looking for a proven HDD professional who can take ownership of field operations maintain high production standards and help identify opportunities to expand the business.

The ideal candidate takes ownership of projects communicates effectively with customers and contractors and has the leadership skills to help build a successful HDD operation. Individuals who have helped grow a directional drilling division or have experience identifying and securing new work opportunities will stand out.

Responsibilities
- Operate and manage a JT20 or similar class horizontal directional drill
- Lead and supervise field crews during daily drilling operations
- Ensure projects are completed safely efficiently and on schedule
- Coordinate with customers contractors and project stakeholders
- Assist with bore planning project execution and production strategy
- Support business development efforts by identifying new opportunities and assisting with project bids
- Monitor equipment performance and ensure proper maintenance practices
- Provide daily and weekly production reports
- Troubleshoot field issues and make real-time operational decisions
- Maintain compliance with all company and safety standards
- Serve as the field leader for HDD operations
- Drive production while maintaining quality and safety standards
- Develop strong working relationships with customers and contractors
- Mentor and lead field personnel
- Take ownership of project performance and results
- Contribute to the growth and expansion of the HDD division

- Minimum 3 years of experience operating HDD equipment preferably JT20 or similar equipment
- Proven experience leading field crews
- Strong understanding of bore planning mud systems and pullback operations
- Ability to manage production goals and job schedules
- Experience working directly with contractors customers and project stakeholders
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel as needed
- Experience supporting project bidding and estimating efforts
- Knowledge of job costing and production metrics
- Background in telecom fiber optic utility or underground construction projects
- Experience helping establish or expand HDD operations within a growing organization
