Purpose:
Perform under the direction of the Central Sterile Manager those duties necessary to ensure the proper decontamination cleaning inspection assembly packaging sterilization storage distribution and documentation of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment according to established procedures. Coordinates assignments for daily operation of the department. Facilitates orientation for new personnel. Assumes charge responsibilities in the absence of the department manager or supervisor.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Receives decontaminates and disinfects soiled equipment and instruments. Inventories and Assembles trays of instruments using the Impress Instrument Tracking System. Is alert to any defective or missing equipment or instrumentation. Preps instrument sets for sterilization. Sterilizes instruments equipment and supplies by steam/Sterrad.

2. Acts as a liaison to the O.R. and all other units.

3. Lead and coordinate daily operations within Central Sterile Processing area to include decontamination sterilization assembly case carts storage and distribution of medical and surgical supplies and mobile equipment used in the care and treatment of patients. Order necessary supplies and equipment

4. Prioritizes and organizes among the available staff and resources and workload to ensure that all customers have the necessary equipment to provide patient care within their assigned shift. Monitors employee compliance with job duties and expectations ensuring the duties of all assignments are accounted for.

5. Coordinates equipment needs to ensure on time high quality patient care.

6. Provides team leadership and coordinates daily operations within Central Sterile Processing area to include decontamination sterilization assembly case carts storage and distribution of medical and surgical supplies and mobile equipment used in the care and treatment of patients.

7. Articulates and translates to other employees and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in unit practices.

8. Creates & maintains comprehensive documentation of work flow and procedures.

9. Incorporates national professional organization guidelines and regulations as well as department and facility goals to improve patient safety quality and satisfaction of the patient experience in daily operations.

11. Demonstrates regular reliable and predictable attendance.

12. Performs other duties as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Three (3) years central sterile processing technician experience.

Prefer: Previous related leadership experience.

Minimum Knowledge Skills and Abilities Requirements:

Proficient in the use of Impress or similar Instrument Tracking System

Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel

Demonstrates critical thinking skills.

Ability to multitask make decisions and communicate effectively.

License Registration or Certification Requirements:

Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Tech (CSPDT) Certification or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) Certification.
