Job Summary
Role: Lead Apigee Developer
Location: Concord CA
Role Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Apigee Developer to design develop and manage enterprise-grade API platforms using Google Apigee. The role requires deep expertise in API design security and lifecycle management with a strong focus on scalable high-performance integrations. A candidate with a strong Java/J2EE background and integration experience (microservices middleware ESB) will be highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design development and implementation of API solutions using Apigee (Edge/X/Hybrid)
- Define and enforce API design standards governance and best practices
- Build and manage API proxies shared flows policies and security frameworks
- Implement robust API security (OAuth2 JWT mTLS rate limiting threat protection)
- Design and develop integration solutions across systems (cloud/on-prem)
- Ensure high performance scalability and reliability of APIs
- Work closely with architecture product and engineering teams to enable digital transformation initiatives
- Provide technical leadership mentoring and code reviews
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues and optimize API performance
- Support CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for API deployments
Required Skills & Experience
- 8 years of experience in software development and integration
- 4 years of hands-on experience with Apigee (Edge/X/Hybrid)
- Strong expertise in:
- API development and lifecycle management
- RESTful APIs and API standards
- API security (OAuth JWT etc.)
- Experience with API gateway policies debugging and analytics
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms (GCP preferred AWS/Azure acceptable)
- Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins Git etc.)
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Nice-to-Have / Preferred
- Strong background in Java/J2EE (Spring Boot Microservices)
- Experience with integration technologies (ESB middleware Kafka messaging systems)
- Exposure to OpenShift/Kubernetes-based deployments
- Experience in financial services or enterprise-scale platforms
- Knowledge of API monetization and developer portals
Leadership Expectations
- Drive API strategy and roadmap alignment with enterprise architecture
- Mentor junior developers and guide best practices adoption
- Act as a technical SME for API and integration architecture
