Laborer Backhoe Operator

The R.J. Corman Railroad Company is currently seeking a Backhoe Operator/Laborer to join our team on our short line through Middlesboro KY and Harrogate TN.

Responsibilities:

• Operate Specialized equipment. (i.e. Backhoe etc.)
• Performs preventative maintenance on heavy or specialized equipment.
• Maintains proper equipment appearance and cleanliness.
• May perform labor duties as needed.
• Communicates with supervisor throughout the job process.
• Ensures working conditions are safe and proper PPE is being used as job duties require.
• Follow DOT regulations; ensure proper permits and driving regulations are followed.

Specialized or Technical Knowledge or Education and Experience:â

• Demonstrated operation experience and equipment knowledge.
• Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot simple mechanical failures.
• Previous experience in railroad construction or maintenance preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Able to perform physical strenuous work.
• Able to frequently bend stoop kneel and crouch.
• Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Requires occasional use of 30 lb claw bar to remove spikes requiring application of 50 lbs of force.
• Requires occasional use of 10 lb sledge hammer to drive spikes requiring application of 75 lbs of force.
• Able to walk climb and maintain balance on equipment stairs ladders uneven terrain rails and ballast in a safe manner.
• Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary.

Environmental Conditions:

• Performs duties in primarily outside environments in and around moving locomotives railcars vehicles and equipment.
• Frequent exposure to weather elements: appropriate PPE required.
