The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood collection and related laboratory duties in an acute care hospital setting. This role requires proficiency in phlebotomy techniques patient interaction and adherence to safety and quality standards. The Phlebotomist will collaborate with clinical staff to ensure timely and accurate specimen collection supporting diagnostic and treatment processes. Candidates with a minimum of 2 years experience or first-timers with appropriate certification are considered. Scheduling preferences may be accommodated but are not guaranteed and all return-to-office (RTO) needs must be disclosed at submission.
Responsibilities:
Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection following established protocols.
Label and handle specimens to maintain integrity and prevent contamination.
Prepare specimens for transport to the laboratory and ensure proper documentation.
Maintain accurate patient records and enter data into electronic medical systems such as EPIC.
Adhere to infection control and safety procedures to protect patients and staff.
Communicate effectively with patients to explain procedures and alleviate concerns.
Collaborate with nursing and laboratory staff to coordinate specimen collection schedules.
Manage inventory of phlebotomy supplies and report equipment issues promptly.
Required Skills & Certifications:
Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) certification.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Minimum of 2 years phlebotomy experience preferred; first-timers accepted.
Proficiency with EPIC electronic medical record system.
Ability to work within a 50-mile radius of the facility.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
Experience working in an acute care hospital environment.
Familiarity with additional laboratory procedures and safety standards.
Special Considerations:
Scheduling requests related to additional employment will not be considered.
Return-to-office (RTO) requirements must be included at time of application submission.
Weekend shifts may exceed every other weekend to meet unit needs.
On-call duties are not required for this position.
Floating between units is not expected.
Block scheduling accommodations are at manager discretion.
Facility provides free parking and color-coded scrubs for Phlebotomists (turquoise).
Scheduling:
Work schedule is determined by management based on unit needs and staffing.
Shift assignments and block scheduling are subject to managerial discretion.
