Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform standardized microbiological testing using approved methods and laboratory procedures.
- Prepare label and process samples for microbiological analysis.
- Prepare media reagents and laboratory supplies according to established procedures.
- Operate laboratory equipment such as incubators balances pipettes autoclaves colony counters and other testing instruments.
- Record test results accurately and maintain laboratory documentation in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with environmental monitoring programs by processing and analyzing environmental swab samples.
- Monitor incubation schedules and ensure timely completion of testing activities.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Follow aseptic techniques and biosecurity procedures to prevent sample contamination.
- Dispose of biological waste and laboratory materials according to established safety procedures.
- Notify laboratory leadership of atypical results out-of-specification findings equipment issues or testing concerns.
- Support investigation verification and validation activities as assigned.
- Participate in laboratory proficiency testing training programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Comply with all food safety quality safety and regulatory requirements and company policies.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associates degree or coursework in Microbiology Biology Food Science Chemistry or related field preferred.
- Previous laboratory experience is preferred but not required.
- Basic understanding of microbiology principles and laboratory techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow written procedures and work with minimal supervision after training.
- Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to accurately document and communicate test results.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand walk and work in a laboratory environment for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to perform repetitive laboratory tasks requiring manual dexterity and attention to detail.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of food microbiology and environmental monitoring programs.
- Familiarity with aseptic techniques and microbiological testing methods.
- Experience working in a GMP food manufacturing or regulated laboratory environment.
- Understanding of laboratory safety and quality systems.
