Job Summary
SteerBridge is seeking a Junior Data Engineer to support the Modern Disability Claims program. This is an entry-level opportunity for someone early in their data engineering career to learn our claims data systems contribute to pipeline development under the guidance of senior engineers and build technical depth supporting a mission-critical VA program.
- Write clean well-documented code to support data pipeline development and maintenance
- Assist with exploratory data preparation and cleansing of claims and healthcare data sources
- Support senior engineers in identifying and fixing bugs in existing ETL/ELT pipelines
- Learn and apply standard debugging and troubleshooting processes for data pipeline issues
- Perform basic data quality checks under the guidance of senior team members
- Document data workflows and processes as directed
- Participate in code reviews to build familiarity with team standards and practices
- Learn the teams domain codebase schemas and MDC data systems
- Eligibility requirements: U.S. citizenship is required for this position under applicable federal contract requirements. Candidate must also be able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the role.
- Must hold or be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance (an active Secret or Top Secret clearance also satisfies this requirement)
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Systems Engineering Data Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 0-3 years of experience in data engineering software development or a related field
- Familiarity with Python and SQL
- Willingness to learn ETL/ELT concepts and cloud-based data platforms
- Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn
- Ability to work collaboratively and receive feedback/mentorship from senior team members
- Coursework internship or project experience involving data pipelines or data engineering
- Exposure to Pandas Git or cloud platforms (AWS Azure or GCP)
- Familiarity with healthcare or claims data a plus

The posted compensation range reflects the scope and requirements of this position. A final offer will be determined based on the candidates relevant experience skills education certifications and work location along with the responsibilities of the position. Where applicable contract requirements wage determinations and federal contract labor categories may also inform the offer.
