Job Summary

Aretum is seeking a Junior Accountant to support daily accounting operations by preparing journal entries performing account reconciliations and assisting with financial reporting to ensure accuracy and compliance with federal accounting requirements. The role requires someone who is detail-oriented analytical and collaborative with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies while supporting month-end close activities and maintaining accurate financial records.

Due to the nature of our work as a federal consulting organization employees may be expected to handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and must adhere to applicable safeguarding and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Apply Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB) standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to analyze reconcile and report intergovernmental transactions.
  • Prepare financial schedules supporting elimination entries and resolve trading partner discrepancies.
  • Prepare and post U.S. Standard General Ledger (USSGL)-compliant journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Review payroll accounting transactions prior to posting to verify accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare payroll accruals and reconcile payroll disbursements from multiple payroll sources to U.S. Treasury disbursements.
  • Identify research and resolve payroll accounting discrepancies preparing corrective journal entries as needed.
  • Reconcile Fund Balance with Treasury (FBWT) to agency financial reporting and investigate variances.
  • Document reconciliation findings recommend corrective actions and prepare USSGL-compliant journal entries to resolve identified discrepancies.
  • Ensure all reconciliations journal entries and supporting documentation comply with federal accounting standards agency policies and reporting requirements.



Requirements
  • BS and 2 () years experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experienced accounting professional with strong analytical organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Proven team player with experience working in fast-paced deadline-driven environments.
  • Experience supporting federal accounting operations including general ledger activities and monthly financial close processes.
  • Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements.
  • Ability to interpret and apply U.S. Treasury USSGL accounting scenarios or comparable private-sector accounting standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience developing documenting and communicating financial management policies procedures and operational guidance.
  • Ability to implement and support changes to financial management practices and financial system operations.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyze complex financial data and recommend effective solutions.

Travel Requirements

This is a remote position; however occasional travel may berequiredbased on project needs client meetings team collaboration events or training is expected to be less than 5% and will be communicated in advance whenever possible.
