IT Support Technician

This job is on-site at our corporate officend Street Baltic SD 57003 about 15 minutes north of Sioux Falls. It is not remote not hybrid not remote-friendly. Drop the address into your maps app before you apply and make sure the drive works for you five days a week.

It also involves regular travel to our other locations. Some weeks youll spend real time in a vehicle not at a desk.

Most of the work happens between 8 and 5. Occasionally youll be here in the evening for an upgrade or a cutover and things get busier during planting and harvest when a growers season is on the line a down system cant wait until Monday.

The Job

Hefty Seed works with 52 dealer store locations across the region and were still growing. Youd be one of three people keeping IT running for all of it.

Everyone here depends on systems working: agronomists in the field sales the people behind the counter at our stores and the office staff in Baltic. When something breaks they call you.

What youll actually do:

Answer the phone when someones laptop printer or login isnt cooperating and stay with them until its actually fixed

Set up image and deploy Windows PCs; manage users groups and permissions in Active Directory and Microsoft 365

Configure and troubleshoot network equipment switches firewalls and Wi-Fi across our sites

Keep servers patched and keep backups running and verified

Support the line-of-business software our teams live in every day agronomy software point of sale and ERP

Travel to our other locations to install equipment fix what cant be fixed over the phone and check in on the people there

Log your work in our ticketing system so nothing gets dropped

Teach people. A real share of this job is showing someone how to do the thing instead of just doing it for them.

What Were Looking For

Wed rather be direct about this than waste your time or ours.

The things that actually matter:

Communication skills. This one is non-negotiable. You can stay calm and clear with someone who is frustrated in a hurry and not technical on the phone in person and in writing. You explain what went wrong in plain language instead of jargon and you follow up. Strong technical skills paired with poor communication will not work in this role and we would rather say that now than after the interview.

Youve fixed real machines. Not read about it done it. Be ready to walk us through a problem you actually solved.

Working knowledge of Windows Microsoft 365 and Active Directory. You can create a user sort out a mapped drive reset access and explain in plain English what group policy does.

Networking you can explain out loud. What a switch does. What DNS is. How youd go about figuring out why one office lost its internet connection.

A valid drivers license and genuine willingness to travel to our locations a clean driving record and the ability to obtain a DOT medical card.

You live within a reasonable commute of Baltic or youre moving here before you start.

Helps but we wont rule you out without it:

CompTIA A Network or Microsoft certifications

A background in agriculture or you just grew up around it

Power BI or CAD experience both come up here and either one is a real plus

Youre the person your family calls when their computer breaks. That instinct is worth more here than a line on a resume.

On experience level: were genuinely open. If youve got a couple of years of help desk under your belt and a good head on your shoulders well teach you the rest the network side the server side our software. What we cant teach is patience with people and the willingness to keep digging until something works.
