Job Summary
The IT Instructor Communications & Technical Writing teaches multiple courses in the IT department including English Professional Communications Customer Service A Preparation and Microsoft Suite & Keyboarding. This role supports students in developing the hardware software and professional soft business skills needed to become successful IT employees through curriculum development instruction grading and student doing so the position directly advances Summit Academy OICs mission of preparing students for living-wage careers through training curriculum development and classroom management.

- Develops and designs curriculum specific to the core competencies of Summit Academy OICs IT Certificate program.
- Teaches students in a competency-based format through lectures demonstration and learning-centered instruction.
- Teaches courses in the IT department including English Professional Communications Customer Service A Preparation and Microsoft Suite & Keyboarding.
- Teaches other courses in short-term and long-term periods as needs arise.
- Manages the learning environment by keeping accurate records grading assignments submitting grades and other reports on time and enforcing school and campus academic and attendance policies.
- Plans appropriate differentiation strategies to address the individual learning needs and styles of diverse adult students.
- Regularly assesses student learning using multiple forms of assessment to determine grades in accordance with established standards and criteria.
- Offers tutoring and assistance to students as needed.
- Models learning and behavior consistent with expectations for students.
- Relates professional and industry experience to learning by incorporating current trends technology and best practices into coursework.
- IT Industry Connection: Demonstrated ability to apply core concepts to the workplace environment and make connections to the IT industry.

This position operates in a professional school and classroom setting and requires the IT Instructor to maintain a professional appearance and attitude. The instructor regularly works in a computer-based learning environment using computers and other instructional technology. The work environment is fast-paced and requires strong time management and prioritization of job duties.
This role requires the ability to stand for significant periods of time while instructing and moving about the classroom approximately 70% of the time with the remaining 30% spent sitting to complete paperwork and grading. The instructor must be able to hear and speak clearly to communicate with students use a computer keyboard and mouse and lift up to 25 pounds.
This is a full-time exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible for overtime pay. Standard hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. This is an onsite position. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required to meet the expectations of the position.
This position does not require travel.
- Associate degree in English Business IT or a related field or at least 4 years of equivalent professional experience.
- Three years of full-time professional experience in a teaching training or customer service role.
- Bachelors degree in English Business IT or a related field
- IT industry experience in particular customer service experience.
- Experience teaching adults.
