Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelors degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned

ESL certification required

Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of core academic subject assigned

Knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to communicate effectively with students and adults

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents students and staff

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Working knowledge of appropriate strategies for reducing behaviors that put students at-risk of not graduating

Ability to analyze develop implement and track intervention plans and strategies

Knowledge of and the ability to analyze and interpret data

Experience:

Minimum of three years teaching experience in an elementary

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies

  1. Implement positive behavioral supports in the learning environment.
  2. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
  3. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials equipment and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency board policies and administrative regulations.
  4. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  5. Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to differentiate instruction to meet the learning needs of students.
  6. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals objectives and methods according to district requirements.

Student Growth and Development

  1. Establish positive relationships with students in at-risk situations and provide a supportive learning environment to increase the likelihood that these students will stay in school and graduate.
  2. Identify at-risk students who are included in progress reports and at the end of grade reporting periods.
  3. Identify at-risk students who are failing more than one subject.
  4. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  5. Maintain at-risk student academic data for the purpose of keeping track of student progress.
  6. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  7. Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.

Classroom Management and Organization

  1. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
  2. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
  3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  4. Assist in selecting books equipment and other instructional materials.
  5. Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required.

Communication

  1. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents students colleagues and community members.
  2. Collaborate with district and campus administrators and teachers to design academic plans to assist identified struggling students.
  3. Work with students parents and staff to ensure students academic success.

Professional Growth and Development

  1. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  2. Comply with state district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  3. Assist with preparation and delivery of research-based professional development.
  4. Attend and participate in faculty meetings as required.
  5. Work with faculty and administrators to adapt curriculum and instruction to meet the needs of identified students.

Policy Reports and Law

  1. Assist with collection and assembling of academic data and interpret this information for instructional purposes.
  2. Compile reports as required.
  3. Comply with policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rule and local board policy.

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move text books and classroom equipment

Environment: Work inside may work outside; regular exposure to noise
