These year-round part-time internships are designed for undergraduate or graduate students currently enrolled in an engineering or planning program. You will perform a variety of administrative operational and technical tasks within the Planning and Engineering Division or Mobility Innovation & Technology Division in the Transportation Department. This will include opportunities for coordinating stakeholders for transportation planning meetings use of Geographic Information Systems project development and engineering reviews and traffic engineering and operation exercises.
This classification is in the unclassified service and is exempt from the Pima County Merit System Rules.
Essential Functions:

Positions within this classification will perform a variety of administrative operational or technical tasks as assigned by the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
Current enrollment in an accredited college or university at the undergraduate or graduate level in an engineering (e.g. mechanical civil electrical) or related science discipline appropriate to departments needs (e.g. hydrology environmental sciences architecture watershed management transportation soil & water science computer science data analytics etc.).

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate level technology civil engineering or planning degree program.
Previous course work in the systems engineering or planning undergraduate or graduate programs.
Experience with written and verbal communication as illustrated by previous reports presentations or class participation.
Experience with/knowledge of transportation engineering/planning principles and methodologies as demonstrated through coursework or prior work experience.

Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certificates:Valid driver license is required at time of application.ValidAZdriver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record.

Successful candidates will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history education and criminal conviction history.
