Job Summary
AECOM is seeking a creative highly talented Senior Interior Designer for immediate employment in our Roanoke VA office. AECOMs Buildings Places business line is dedicated to design excellence and integrated project delivery solutions with expertise including architecture interiors engineering development workplace strategy economic planning master planning project management and construction services. Our BP Roanoke studio provides industry-leading design projects in government healthcare and higher education markets.
Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to those listed below:
- Lead client visioning and engagement; provide thought leadership and design thinking; mentor and coach staff for growth.
- Lead the full design lifecycle from visioning and programming through schematic design design development construction documentation and construction administration.
- Produce interior design and construction documents that meet applicable codes standards and discipline design criteria; with minimal oversight develop complex drawing packages as required.
- Communicate project information consistently and on time to clients partners and internal teams
- Review vendor and supplier documents across disciplines for accuracy; resolve discrepancies and coordinate updates.
- Provide technical guidance to Designers and Technicians; instruct team members on standards equipment and material requirements.
- Report assignment status (schedule budget risks) to the Interior Design Leader and escalate issues promptly.
- Assist with planning and scheduling of design tasks and dependencies across disciplines.
- Interpret and apply industry codes permits and standards to ensure design and drawing compliance.
Qualifications :
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors degree from an accredited school in Interior Design or Architecture and 6 years of related interior design experience in commercial and government interior construction projects or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.
- Licenses and/or certifications required: National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) and/or National Council of Architectural Review Boards (NCARB).
- US Citizenship is required due to the nature of the projects.
- Experience with building codes standards and building structures.
- Experience with Autodesk Revit and Adobe Creative Suites software (InDesign Illustrator and Photoshop).
- Experience with contract interiors FF&E (manufacturers dealers) and experience documenting FF&E specifications.
- Previous experience in space planning building codes and ADA requirements.
- Demonstrated success as a project designer across interior project types (e.g. workplace healthcare collaborative and learning environments).
- Ability to periodically travel domestically or internationally.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10 years of related interior design experience in commercial and governmental interior construction projects preferred.
- Experience delivering UFC-compliant Comprehensive Interior Design (CID) packages.
- Demonstrated experience in working with other disciplines such as mechanical electrical telecom fire protection.
- Strong communication interpersonal and collaboration skills that foster a positive team environment.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor teams; self-starter who can manage multiple project teams on complex assignments.
- Intermediate knowledge of cost estimating methods materials costs and forecasting techniques.
- Understanding of other disciplines roles and interfaces on multi-disciplinary projects.
