Instructional designer ensures pedagogical anddesign excellence in all online courses. Collaborates and secures all necessaryservices permissions professional legal state and national compliances in all online courses. Provides training and resources for faculty and staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Designsand develops multimedia instructional materials for computer-based trainingand other delivery platforms by performing the following duties. Oversee theinstructional design process of the Department of Online Education. Coordinate coursedesign and implementation of effective pedagogy in the development of thehighest quality online courses. Coordinate all coursereview processes to ensure online courses satisfy the Hardin-Simmons Universitycourse development rubric accessibility standards quality expectations andapplicable distance education requirements. Practices aninstructional design model that facilitates the cohort process equippingfaculty to design and develop high-quality compliant courses while fosteringcommunities of inquiry and practice and scaling support to meet varying instructionaldesign needs. Communicatesinstructional design processes timelines and deadlines in advance through appropriate communication channels. Serves as our learningmanagement system (LMS) liaison and informs the department of online educationand IT of needs and processes necessary to effectively implement and supportour LMS. Develops and maintainstemplates resources and design aids that promote consistency and efficiency. Facilitates theresolution recording and tracking of our help desk ticket system. Proactively providesupdates information and awareness of instructional design activity. Develops and enactsshort and long-term goals for the instructional design processes. Keeps current oninstructional design trends practices and state-of-the-art processes toensure the highest quality instructional design for Hardin-Simmons University. Determines content sequence and createscontent outlines and treatment approaches for written visual and audiocontent. Conducts task analyses and determinesperformance criteria. Develops evaluation strategies andinstruments. Coordinates with instructional writersduring preliminary project discussions to ensure appropriate contentdevelopment. Advises and assists video and artproduction staff project editors vendors authors and subject matterexperts ensuring team conformance with instructional objectives and design. Designs and develops related materialssuch as workbooks manuals and instructor guides. Monitor federal state accreditation and institutionalrequirements related to distance education and make recommendations to ensureongoing compliance and instructional excellence. Provide training resources consultation and coursereview support to faculty related to online teaching best practicesaccessibility course quality standards and Regular and SubstantiveInteraction (RSI) requirements. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES (Language Mathematical Reasoning and Computer Skills): MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units ofmeasure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability tocompute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety ofconcrete variables in situations where only limited standardization to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oraldiagram or schedule form. COMPUTER SKILLS: Toperform this job successfully an individual should have knowledge of LearningManagement Systems Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; ProjectManagement software; Order processing systems and Contact Management systems. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree required. Masters degree in education educationtechnology instructional design or related field preferred but not required. Experiencein a related field is favored over a graduate-level degree. One year of relatedexperience is required. Must have Excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills. Must have proficiency in learningmanagement systems (preferably Canvas) and adaptable and ongoing skill inlearning and implementing new learning technologies. Must have the abilityto multi-task high-priority projects organize details and meet impendingdeadlines with minimal supervision. Theabove requirements will be assessed/validated during the interview process aswell as the reference check along with review of the written competenciessubmitted. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This positionis a Full-Time Non-Exempt/Hourly Level Staff Position. A regular 40-hour workweek isrequired at minimum (plus occasional overtime). Irregular hoursoccasional evening and weekend work and/or assignments beyond a 40-hour week may be requiredduring peak season and/or to meet project deadlines. All hours worked beyond 40 hours ina single work week will be compensated at time and a half per FLSA guidelines. Infrequent travel maybe required on occasion inorder to attend training workshops. Must have andmaintain a valid Class C Drivers License and maintain a clear driving recordto be insurable under the university liability policy. Must be able to drive to complete work assignments on andoff campus as needed.
