Responsibilities
The Charlotte Lab School Instructional Assistant Teacher will have responsibilities in support of Charlotte Lab Schools instructional vision:
Planning and working with teachers in developing strategies for reinforcing skills
Supporting students with specific academic behavioral or social needs
Assist in the instruction of individual or groups of students as directed by the teacher
Participating in transportation lunch recess and student supervision duties as assigned
Conference with teachers regularly on students goals and progress
Utilize communication systems for home-school collaboration
Analyze data to inform decision making & instructional planning
Monitor student progress through mastery tracking and student learning portfolios
Participate actively in ongoing professional development and Assistant Teacher evaluation process
Supervise students and maintain a clean orderly safe print-rich and positive classroom learning environment
Serve as an Advisor to a small group of students; in this role deliver a social-emotional skills curriculum serve as an advocate for advisees and operate as liaison between their families and the school
Fulfill all other duties & responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
Candidates for the Instructional Assistant MUST:
Hold an Associates Degree or have completed two years of higher education equivalent to 48 credit hours
Have experience working with elementary-aged students
Have experience working with students with high needs students or be able/willing to learn how to fulfill the responsibilities listed above
In addition the Lab School Leadership Team will look favorably upon candidates who:
Are trained or licensed in restorative practices trauma-informed practices and Active Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI);
Have comfort with technology and experience with Google Apps for Education;
Demonstrate ability to work in a dynamic fast paced start-up environment both independently and as part of a team; and
Demonstrate experience in or passion for working with diverse populations

Physical Requirements
The employee must have the ability to perform the following physical tasks. Reasonable
accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities:
Sit stand and walk for extended periods throughout the instructional day
Lift and carry classroom materials instructional resources and student work (up to 50 pounds)
with or without accommodations
Bend kneel and reach to access materials work at student level and assist students
Climb stairs and navigate multiple levels of the building as required
Use fine motor skills including writing typing and manipulating small objects
Hear and respond to student needs questions and behavioral issues
See clearly to monitor student work write on boards and read instructional materials
Speak clearly and project voice to be heard in classroom and group settings without
amplification
Assist students with personal hygiene needs as appropriate (for primary grades)
Respond quickly to student safety emergencies and assist students in evacuation procedures
Transport students or materials as needed for instructional purposes
Use hand-eye coordination for writing computer work and classroom activities
Compensation
Charlotte Lab School offers competitive compensation commensurate with experience and education level using our compensation rubric. All salaries are determined pending verification of experience by our Finance/HR divisions and Board of Directors budget approval. Please note the following regarding use of the rubric:
Assistant instructional dean and counselor salaries (Grades 1-4) are determined based on 1 year credit for 1 year of teaching and/or other relevant experience. Increased pay for advanced degrees (which may include specialized leadership programs or certifications) is indicated above and paid on the basis on completion of qualifying programs.
Leadership salaries (Grades 5 and above) are determined based on 1 year credit for 1 year of leadership experience and .5 year credit for each year of teaching experience. Advanced degrees are assumed so not considered in this scale.
The position also includes medical insurance for the employee with voluntary dental and vision plans and spouse/family coverage. Lab also provides access to a Flexible Spending Account for health and childcare expenses and an opportunity to contribute to a 403b retirement plan. Lab provides the opportunity for Lab employees to earn 10 PTO days each year (1/month). Full time Charlotte Lab School faculty members also receive priority in the student admissions process.
