JOB SPECIFICATIONINSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT III SPECIAL ED/HEALTHTHE POSITIONUnder general supervision assists a certificated teacher in the supervision and instruction of regular or special education students; relieves the teacher of routine clerical duties; assists students with special health care needs; and does related work as TO:PrincipalDISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSWorks with students individually and in small groups assisting with specific instructional or learning tasks. Helps students master assigned subject matter. Assists students by interpreting classroom assignments. Reads to students and listens to students read. Assists pupils with use of audio-visual equipment. Advises students on the use of community services. Administers and scores tests. Takes attendance and lunch counts. Supervises students at lunch on the playground and on field trips. Applies student management techniques. Provides specialized health care services as prescribed by a doctor. May be required to perform services for students at various work sites daily. Upon request assists in preparing reports on students progress. Assists teacher with contacting parents. Assists in training parent up work areas and prepares materials for class use. Prepares charts flash cards work sheets art materials bulletin boards and similar instructional materials. Orders supplies. Assists in maintaining a neat and orderly environment. May assist with routine clerical duties directly related to classroom work. Maintains routine information and operational records. Keeps anecdotal notes and maintains student files. Prepares reports of work completed and materials used. Operates office machines and devices. Attends and participates in planning and evaluating sessions. Attends in-service workshops for training in best practices which include but not limited to Pivotal Assault Response Training (PART-2000) Discreet Trail Training (DTT) Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication of Handicapped Children (TEACCH) and Picture Exchange Communication (PECS). Other related duties may be assigned. EXAMPLES OF DUTIESThe duties listed are typical but not exclusive:Observes and records behavior patterns and develops appropriate techniques to reinforce acceptable students in academic and non-academic subjects as administration of student testing and scores tests as instructional personnel with the development and presentation of learning materials and instructional students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow up learning and supervises students during classroom activities in the library and on field trips as well as during lunch and other school day in the development of a variety of instructional a variety of regular clerical duties such as filing typing or duplicating student record files and data a variety of instructional media office machines and discipline in the absence of the records of materials and equipment as in District in-service students in dressing eating and specialized health care services such as wheelchair positioning lifting chest percussion emergency injections medications requiring specialized procedures catheterization tube feeding feeding ostomy care tracheotomy suctioning and other procedures which are necessary to enable a student to attend school as prescribed by a physician. QUALIFICATIONS GUIDEKnowledge of:General concepts of child growth and development and child behavior used in controlling and motivating English usage punctuation spelling grammar and record purposes and goals of public subject area content as required in job to:Assume responsibility for supervising and utilize basic methods and procedures to be followed in instructional routine clerical work and basic arithmetical an understanding patient warm and receptive attitude toward and carry out oral and written cooperative working relationships with students staff parents and the general public. Maintain strict confidentiality of student information and school specified goals of student using best continuity of structured in transitioning student from one setting to communication skills and social AND EXPERIENCEEquivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade; some paid or volunteer clerical experience or work with children in an educational or child care setting is desirable; or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and are encouraged to participate in courses seminars and workshops in the area of instructions services psychology or possess a First Aide and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation CertificatePass the Districts adopted Proficiency Examination with a satisfactory desired must be proficient in English and a designated second maintain a valid California Drivers License; if required to drive a District vehicle must be insurable at standard market rates under the Districts insurance QUALITIESMature emotional stability interest in and understanding of students good health; flexibility and YEAR:185 DaysSALARY:Range 20Board Approved:1/10/95Revised:11/05/02
