Help keep our community healthy and thriving! In this role youll lead the facilitys Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP) helping create a safe sanitary and comfortable environment for residents and team members while preventing the spread of infections and communicable diseases.
What Youll Do
- Monitors a system for preventing identifying reporting investigation and the transmission of infections and communicable diseases for all residents staff volunteers visitors and other individuals providing services under a contractual arrangement based upon the facility assessment and following accepted national standards.
- Monitors a system of surveillance designed to identify possible communicable diseases or infections before they can spread to other persons in the facility. Identifies when and to who possible incidents of communicable diseases or infections should be reported.
- Develops standard and transmission-based precautions to be followed to prevent the spread of infections.
- Provides direction to team members when and how isolation should be used including type and duration of isolation depending upon the infectious agent or organism involved keeping the isolation to the least restrictive isolation as possible.
- Develops circumstances under which the facility must prohibit team members with a communicable disease or infected skin lesion from direct contact with residents and/or food.
- Educates models and enforces proper hand washing techniques.
- Develops a system for recording incidents identified under the facilitys IPCP.
- Educates and monitors personnel for proper handling storing processing and transporting linens to prevent the spread of infection.
- Provides an annual review of its IPCP and update program according to new standards.
- Chairs the Infection Control Committee.
- Responsible for reporting all Act 52 data.
- Collaborates with leadership and the medical director to develop implement and evaluate the annual infection prevention goals and action plan.
- Partners with the team and local state and national agencies on activities related to infection prevention.
- Establishes a facility-wide system for prevention identification investigation and control of infections of residents staff and visitors and vendors including surveillance designed to identify possible communicable diseases or infections before they spread.
- Conducts outbreak investigations.
- Oversees the antibiotic stewardship program and monitors residents antibiotic use.
- Maintains a system for reporting possible incidents of communicable disease to local state or national agencies as required.
- Assesses the need for develops and presents IPCP in-service education for individual departments general orientation and annual review as needed.
- Serves as a member of the QA meeting and Infection Control meeting.
- Accountable for surveillance of healthcare-acquired and community-acquired infections from residents staff volunteers and visitors.
- Maintains current knowledge of federal state and local regulations and ensures that the facility leaders are informed of appropriate issues. Understands and complies with infection control safety and OSHA procedures and regulations.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What Were Looking For
- Licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse
- Have primary professional training in nursing medical technology microbiology epidemiology or other related field.
- Completed specialized training in infection prevention and control.
- Able to educate to all levels of learning.
- Proficient in Excel and Word as a means to track and trend infections.
Additional Information
This position is full-time 32 hours per week 7am-3pm. 24 hours per week will be committed to infection prevention with remaining hours working on the floor.
