Job Summary
The Import/Export Analyst III is a senior professional role responsible for independently managing moderately complex import and export activities and applying indepth knowledge of trade compliance regulations to ensure accurate compliant and efficient global trade operations. This role exercises judgment and analytical skills to resolve nonroutine issues support audits and contribute to process improvements. The Import/Export Analyst III has a direct impact on compliance posture cost control and supply chain continuity and provides guidance to less experienced analysts.Job Description
1. Logistics Operations & International Traffic
Multimodal Logistics: Coordinate global ocean air and ground routing with freight forwarders. Drive logistics optimization metrics (OTD % saturation) and ensure full documentation compliance for customs clearance & post audits.
Customs Broker Management: Oversee and audit the performance of Customs Brokers in the US/Canada and Agentes Aduanales in Mexico validating Pedimentos Customs Entries and B3 Forms. (Scope can be adjusted inside North America)
Logistics & Customs Analytics: Generate comprehensive metrics regarding the volume and USD values of logistics and customs operations customs ports utilized and active operational seaports airports and border crossings.
Global Quality Assurance: Verify that international shippers comply with destination country entry regulations by reviewing shipping documents and pre-clearance requirements alongside Customs Brokers to prevent non-compliance with local and international trade laws.
ISF Compliance: Ensure shippers submit the Importer Security Filing (ISF) within mandatory deadlines to mitigate risk and prevent late-filing penalties (minimum $5000 USD per late entry).
Logistics suppliers management: Monitor supplier compliance with contracts SLAs and performance metrics. Guarantee timely payment processing for Nidecs logistics services.
2. Regulatory Compliance & Legal Protection
Customs Agency Management:
United States: Oversee and audit electronic transmissions to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) ensuring full compliance with partner government agencies such as the FDA EPA and DOT based on product type.
Canada: Monitor and audit operations with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) ensuring seamless compliance under the mandatory CARM (CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management) system.
Mexico: Guarantee regulatory compliance with the SAT ANAM and General Rules of Foreign Trade (Reglas Generales de Comercio Exterior) maintaining strict control over mandatory NOMs (Mexican Official Standards) for certification and labeling.
Security Programs: Collaborate in the management maintenance and auditing of international supply chain security certifications including C-TPAT (US) OEA (Mexico) and PIP (Canada).
Record Keeping & Audit Trails: Design implement and audit internal foreign trade document retention policies; mitigate financial risks by establishing a bulletproof audit trail for tax and customs authorities.
3. Reverse Logistics Returns and Re-exports
RMA Management (Return Merchandise Authorization): Design and guarantee the correct logistics infrastructure for returning defective or surplus merchandise to suppliers unrelated entities or intercompany facilities across Asia Europe America other countries
Re-exportation Strategy: Design and secure appropriate customs regimes to execute merchandise returns without duplicating tax payments leveraging Temporary Export schemes in Mexico Duty Drawback in the US and the Duties Relief Program in Canada.
In-Transit Inventory Control: Monitor the physical and legal status of containers or pallets moving through reverse logistics channels to prevent cargo from becoming stranded at departure ports.
4. Tariff Classification & Trade Agreements
HTS/Tariff Classification: Ensure all new SKUs generated by technical areas receive an assigned HTS code; audit classification databases for global imports exports and returns to eliminate misclassification penalties.
USMCA / T-MEC Strategy: Audit Customs Brokers to ensure the flawless application of USMCA Certificates of Origin for merchandise flowing within the North American region following initial import.
International Trade Agreements: Leverage alternative free trade agreements established by the US Mexico or Canada with Europe (EU-Mexico FTA) the Asia-Pacific region (CPTPP) America and other countries to minimize origin-based tariff costs.
5. Discrepancy Management & Quality Issues
Discrepancy Reporting: Administratively manage variances identified between original Packing Lists and physical cargo received (shortages overages or damaged goods).
Customs Rectification & Amending: Ensure Import/Export Analysts initiate Rectificación de Pedimentos (Mexico) Post-Summary Corrections (US) or Customs Amendments (Canada) when quantity or value discrepancies arise mitigating technical smuggling risks.
Quarantine & Inspection: Coordinate with warehouses and the Quality Assurance team to isolate materials with quality issues; ensure foreign supplier inspections at local plants comply with all applicable labor and safety regulations.

6. Project Management
Business Case Consultation: Provide expert insight voice and vote on corporate project business cases involving new import/export flows ensuring tariff and non-tariff regulations are integrated into early project compliance planning.
Special Project Execution: Participate in high-level decision-making design and execution of specialized import/export operations including specialized equipment heavy machinery or sensitive commodities.
PMO Leadership: Lead as Project Manager Officer (PMO) in the multi-country implementation of a Global Trade Management (GTM) system across Mexico the United States and Canada.

Managed Import Value: Track and report the total commercial value (in USD) of merchandise entering the region under the ACIM NAR division. Monitor and classify all applicable duty amounts and types (General IEPS etc.) for record-keeping and financial expense forecasting.
Fiscal Contingency Mitigation: Identification of the potential value of fiscal contingencies and tax exposures that the role must mitigate through rigorous auditing.
Cost management: Register Initiatives and Cost Savings (ICS) when a project helps avoid expenses or generates financial savings for the company through transportation efficiency logistics optimization or customs penalty avoidance.
2. Operational Dimensions
Customs Clearance Volume: Total volume of international shipments processed and cleared through customs.
Active Global Network: Number of international factories and/or overseas shippers from whom NIDEC ACIM sources goods outside of North America.
Customs Brokerage Management: Total number of Customs Broker licenses (Patentes) and agencies managed across the region.
3. Geographical Scope & Trilateral Coverage
Trilateral Infrastructure: Coverage of customs ports and operational facilities across three buying countries (Mexico the United States and Canada).
Regions of Origin: Global logistics reach including the coordination with origin seaports and airports across Asia Europe and LATAM.
Regulatory Complexity: Direct accountability for simultaneous compliance across three distinct customs legislations (SAT/ANAM CBP and CBSA) and their respective partner government agencies (including NOMs FDA and CARM regulations).
06- IMPACT AND INFLUENCE
Cross-Functional Collaboration: As part of the Import/Export & Logistics team partner directly with Trade Compliance direct & indirect procurement engineering and sales teams to guarantee the legality continuity and efficiency of operations ensuring comprehensive customer satisfaction and robust compliance protection for Nidec.
Executive Leadership & Advisory (Logistics & Trade Compliance Directors): Act as the primary advisor on customs risks resulting from operational non-compliance; synthesize complex cross-border data into strategic KPIs and auditable metrics across all three countries to deliver clear actionable business insights for executive directors.
External Influence & Vendor Management (Customs Brokers & Freight Forwarders): Lead evaluate and hold logistics service providers accountable across all three countries by enforcing strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and meticulously auditing the accuracy of their customs declarations.
