Job Summary
- Plan prepare and deliver daily instruction aligned with the current Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC).
- Develop and implement rigorous lessons that integrate foundational concepts from both physics and chemistry.
- Provide instruction in applicable IPC content areas including:
- Scientific and engineering practices
- Recurring themes and concepts in science
- Matter and its properties
- Atomic structure and chemical interactions
- Chemical reactions and energy changes
- Motion forces and Newtons laws
- Work energy and power
- Mechanical and electromagnetic waves
- Electricity and magnetism
- Thermal energy and heat transfer
- Conservation of energy and matter
- Relationships among scientific principles mathematics technology and real-world systems
- Design instruction that emphasizes conceptual understanding and the application of scientific principles to solve problems.
- Incorporate hands-on investigations laboratory experiments demonstrations scientific models simulations engineering design challenges technology and real-world applications.
- Help students make meaningful connections between physics and chemistry concepts.
- Integrate appropriate mathematical reasoning measurement graphing data analysis proportional relationships and scientific notation into instruction.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners including students receiving special education services English learners students requiring intervention and students needing enrichment or acceleration.
- Scientific and Engineering Practices
- Provide students with regular opportunities to engage in scientific inquiry and engineering design.
- Teach students to ask questions identify scientific problems and define engineering challenges.
- Guide students in planning and conducting appropriate descriptive comparative experimental and engineering investigations.
- Teach students to select and safely use scientific tools technology models and measurement equipment.

- Establish and maintain a safe organized and effective science classroom and laboratory environment.
- Instruct students in appropriate laboratory safety procedures and reinforce safe practices consistently.
- Ensure proper use of laboratory equipment scientific tools chemicals electrical equipment heating devices glassware and protective equipment.
- Follow all applicable district state and federal requirements regarding laboratory safety chemical handling storage labeling inventory and disposal.
- Conduct appropriate safety inspections and promptly report safety concerns or equipment needs.
- Maintain laboratory materials equipment and supplies necessary to support effective instruction.
- Promote student accountability and responsible conduct during all laboratory and hands-on activities.
- Develop and administer formative summative performance-based laboratory and other assessments aligned with applicable IPC TEKS and district curriculum requirements.
- Analyze student performance data to identify strengths learning gaps and opportunities for intervention or enrichment.
- Use assessment results to adjust instructional strategies and improve student achievement.
- Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students regarding academic progress and mastery of course objectives.
- Maintain accurate student records and grades in accordance with district policies.
- Provide appropriate intervention remediation tutoring enrichment and acceleration opportunities.
- Support students in developing the scientific literacy vocabulary mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills necessary for success in subsequent science courses.
- Establish and maintain a positive respectful structured and inclusive learning environment.
- Communicate clear expectations for academic performance student behavior laboratory safety and participation.

- Collaborate with science teachers and instructional staff to support vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum and instruction.
- Work with teachers of Biology Chemistry Physics and other science courses to support student transitions and readiness for future coursework.
- Participate in professional learning communities department meetings curriculum planning and district and campus professional development.
- Remain current regarding Texas Science TEKS instructional practices laboratory safety requirements district curriculum and applicable assessment requirements.
- Collaborate with special education teachers bilingual/ESL staff counselors interventionists and administrators to support student achievement.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with parents or guardians regarding student progress academic concerns and achievements.
- Participate in required campus and district activities and perform other duties as assigned by the campus principal or designee.
Required Skills:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. Valid Texas teaching certificate appropriate for the assigned grade level and science subject area or eligibility for certification under applicable Texas Education Agency and district requirements. Demonstrated knowledge of high school physics and chemistry concepts appropriate for Integrated Physics and Chemistry instruction. Knowledge of the current Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) applicable to Integrated Physics and Chemistry. Knowledge of effective instructional strategies classroom management student assessment and differentiated instruction. Ability to safely conduct and supervise high school laboratory investigations. Strong verbal written organizational and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to effectively use instructional technology scientific equipment laboratory tools student data and digital learning resources. Preferred Qualifications Texas certification in an appropriate Science certification area. Previous experience teaching Integrated Physics and Chemistry Physics Chemistry or other high school science courses. Experience implementing inquiry-based phenomenon-based project-based or laboratory-centered science instruction. Experience managing a high school science laboratory. Strong knowledge of scientific modeling engineering design data analysis and the integration of mathematics into science instruction. Experience supporting students with diverse academic backgrounds and levels of science preparedness. Knowledge Skills and Abilities The successful candidate should demonstrate: Strong knowledge of foundational physics and chemistry principles. Thorough understanding of the Texas TEKS applicable to Integrated Physics and Chemistry. Ability to translate state standards into rigorous daily learning objectives and effective instruction. Skill in integrating mathematics measurement graphing proportional reasoning and quantitative analysis into science instruction. Strong classroom and laboratory management skills. Ability to analyze student achievement data and use results to guide instruction. Ability to differentiate instruction and provide appropriate intervention and enrichment.
