Job Summary

Hispanic Housing Development Corporation (HHDC) is seeking an experienced Helper C (Union) professional to join our CHA portfolio in Chicago IL. This position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness safety and overall appearance of the propertys exteriors common areas vacant units sidewalks and alleyways. Helper C employees must be customer-service focused and are expected to understand and follow all safety policies and procedures while performing their duties.

Full-Time: 40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday - Friday
Pay Rate: $22.82 per hour

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Cleans hallways public areas vacant apartments parking areas sidewalks alleyways and on-site management offices.
  • Maintains the exterior cleanliness and appearance of the property including lawn care interior/exterior window washing snow removal leaf blowing trash pickup and sanitation.
  • Uses ladders as needed to dust and wash walls clean ceilings and dust and polish light fixtures.
  • Washes and replaces blinds as needed.
  • Cleans vacant apartments and prepares units as directed.
  • Assists with inventory control of janitorial equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with painting as directed.
  • Immediately reports maintenance or safety concerns including unsecured vacant units and structural damage.
  • Ensures proper use of equipment and follows all safety procedures in accordance with OSHA industry manufacturer and HHDC standards.
  • Reports concerns to immediate supervisors.
  • Assists at other properties as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Helper C employees perform their work in a residential apartment setting. While primarily responsible for cleaning and maintaining public areas vacant units exterior areas and other assigned spaces employees may regularly interact with residents and visitors.

Employees may be required to interact with difficult individuals and are expected to handle residents and visitors with professionalism calmness diplomacy and strong customer service skills.

This position may experience frequent interruptions and shifting priorities. Employees must be willing and able to work both indoors and outdoors in cold hot wet humid dirty and other varying conditions. Work areas may include gardens alleyways parking lots basements rooftops residential units and office areas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Full-time janitorial experience.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Possess good safety habits with the ability to work safely with a variety of cleaning supplies.
  • Highly organized.
  • Multitasking self-motivated skills.
  • Ability to work with lawn machinery and power tools.
  • Sensitive to diverse cultures and having excellent customer service skills.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish may be required depending on resident demographic needs.
