What Youll Do

Provide technical support in the area of health physics/radiological engineering to help safely control radiological work. Perform radiological hazard analysis of complex work activities.

Monitors exposure trends and uses other radiological data to assess the performance of radiological work.

Conduct ALARA reviews to determine the need for appropriate engineering/administrative controls.

Investigate internal and external exposures to determine the nature of potential intakes and likely causes of exposures to personnel.

Assist in the development of policies technical bases and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.

Perform radiological design reviews of new facilities new processes or for modifications to facilities to ensure exposures will be maintained. Assist with audits and assessments of programs practices and work areas.

Participate on emergency response team

Minimum Job Requirements

Bachelors degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline.
OR Masters degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline.
OR Eight or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting.
In addition the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (Baccalaureate in engineering or related science 2 years job-relate and at least 1 year nuclear experience or a DOE O 426.A alternative). DOE 426.32a experience requirements can be satisfied following the interim newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.

Preferred Job Requirements

Health Physics/Engineering operational experience
Certification or progress towards certification by American Board of Health Physics or registration by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologist

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712) which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
