As part of the Hatchery Preventative Maintenance Team you will address the ongoing maintenance repair construction and emergency needs of state agency-owned facilities and lands.

In this dynamic role utilize your expertise across multiple construction fields to ensure the safety and functionality of essential structures such as hatchery buildings water systemsbird predation prevention systems and on-site residences.

Your contributions will support hatchery operations that are critical for the production health and loss prevention of hatchery fish.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role this position:


Carpentry.

  • Independently constructs and performs minor and major repairs to buildings sheds handrails porches decks and various other structures from specification plans sketches or instructions.
  • Independently repairs modifies and installs metal asphalt shake shingle and torch-down roof systems on residential and commercial buildings.
  • Installs and replaces doors and windows.
  • Independently builds forms for footings basic walls steps slabs curbs and concrete flatwork.
  • Independently installs concrete reinforcing (re-bar) in concrete forms.
  • Independently forms pours finishes and repairs concrete.
  • Makes minor modification or repair to steel buildings and siding.
  • Field-designs and constructs permanent and temporary supports forms covers boxes and protective structures using plywood 2x4s or similar wood framing and bracing materials.
  • Independently quantifies repairs patches installs and finishes drywall (sheetrock) wall and ceiling systems.
  • Assesses quantifies repairs installs finishes and paints drywall products or surfaces.


Commercial and Residential Plumbing.

  • Repairs or replaces pressured water supply lines and gravity drainpipes. Installs and modifies existing water intake distribution and drainage systems and pipes.
  • Independently repairing and replacing residential and commercial plumbing valves pipes and fittings using copper plastic galvanized steel and other misc. types.
  • Sweats copper pipe in repairing or installing new or existing plumbing.
  • Independently installs and replaces commercial and residential water fixtures such as sinks toilets dishwashers hot water tanks laundry machines and related plumbing.
  • Operates equipment and electronic utility locators to aid in the location of underground water lines and septic systems.
  • Performs repairs modifications and replaces damaged drain lines on and to existing domestic and commercial septic systems.
  • Independently installs modifies and repairs existing and installs new domestic water filtration delivery and distributions systems.


Construction Equipment Operation and Maintenance.

  • Picks up transports and delivers building materials using up to 550 series truck and trailer combinations.
  • Ensures all safety alarms guards and protective devices affixed to equipment are operating correctly before putting trucks and equipment into service.


Working Conditions:

Work setting: Duties are performed at construction sites on hatchery and wildlife areas and on occasion in a carpentry fabrication shop. Hazards include working on rough terrain riverbanks slippery slopes and other surfaces confined and difficult to reach spaces and in all types of weather conditions including extreme heat rain or snow. Bending stooping squatting twisting pushing pulling and lifting of 50 pounds repetitively when loading and unloading trucks or moving materials around project sites. This position may involve working in or near water including tasks that require navigating negotiating and performing duties related to water environments.


Schedule: Typically Monday Thursday 6:00 AM 4:30 PM. This position is full-time working 40 hours per week. The standard work schedule includes the potential for occasional evening or weekend work as needed. Alternative schedules may be considered based on business needs.


Travel requirements: Travel required 60-80% depending on season.


Customer Interactions: Frequent interactions varying between Federal Local Inter-Agency and Intra-Agency customers vendors and general public.



QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:


Option 1:

High school diploma or equivalency.

And

Four (4) years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance residential/commercial building construction commercial framing or building repair work.



Option 2:

High school diploma or equivalency.

And

Successful completion of a recognized trade school program.

And

One (1) year of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance residential/commercial building construction commercial framing or repair work/



License: Valid drivers license.


For ALL options above the selected applicant will demonstrate competencies in the following areas:

  • General knowledge of residential and/or commercial plumbing installation and repair.
  • General knowledge of residential and/or commercial roofing installation and repair.
  • General knowledge of residential and/or commercial concrete construction work.
  • Knowledge of skilled carpentry building maintenance methods materials tools and equipment used in construction maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of procedures methods and materials used in the assigned department.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in installing repairing and finishing drywall wall and ceiling systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.


Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the required qualifications our ideal applicant will possess one or more of the following:

  • General steel fabrication and welding experience.
  • General steel structure erection experience.
  • Tile and masonry construction and repair experience.
