Position: Hardware Certification Planning Engineer
Location Irvine CA- Onsite only


Top must-have: Airborne Hardware Certification Statement of Involvement (SOI) DAL Determination Certification Planning Compliance Mapping.

Job Summary:
An Airborne Electronic Hardware (AEH) Certification Engineer guides electronic hardware through aviation regulatory compliance focusing heavily on RTCA DO-254 standards for complex custom micro coded components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Certification Planning: Create and manage the Plan for Hardware Aspects of Certification (PHAC) hardware verification plans and life cycle data.
  • DO-254 Compliance: Ensure hardware design assurance levels (DAL A through E) are met particularly for high-integrity safety-critical systems (DAL-A/B).
  • Artifact Generation: Produce review and maintain traceability matrices Hardware Requirements Documents (HRDs) Hardware Design Documents (HDDs) and configuration management records.
  • FAA/Authority Liaison: Serve as the technical focal point during FAA audits design reviews and Statements of Involvement (SOI).

Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering or a related STEM field.
  • Experience: 5 years of hands-on experience in avionics design assurance hardware verification
  • Standards Knowledge: Deep familiarity with DO-254 Certification Guidelines DO-160 (environmental) and ARP4754A (system level).
  • Audit Experience: Proven track record supporting formal FAA/EASA audits and managing conformity reviews
  • Development of certification plans for airborne electronic hardware
  • Experience with RTCA DO-254 compliance
  • Hardware Design Assurance Level (DAL A-E) determination
  • Hardware certification lifecycle planning and execution
  • Certification basis development and compliance mapping
