The NC Department of Administration is the business manager for North Carolina state government. The department oversees Government Operations such as building construction purchasing and contracting for goods and services maintaining facilities managing state vehicles acquiring and disposing of real property and operating auxiliary services such as courier mail delivery and the sale of state and federal surplus property. Additionally the department manages many of the states advocacy programs that provide assistance and services to diverse segments of the states population that have been traditionally underserved.
Description of Work
The North Carolina Department of Administration Facility Management Division is seeking a motivated enthusiastic and skilled Grounds Supervisor I responsible for development and landscape maintenance of grounds to include planning work efforts assigning staff and reviewing work. This position will not have any direct reports but at times will be required to supervise full-time employees temporary employees and inmate workers.Key Responsibilities:
- Ability to plan and manage the work.
- Preparing for and planting shrubs trees flowers and lawns.
- Installing hardened landscape structures.
- Implementing scheduled landscape maintenance.
- Diagnosing diseased shrubs trees flowers and lawns and taking remedial action.
- Assisting in repair of landscape equipment.
- Maintaining beds including pruning weeding mulching fertilizing and spraying of plant material.
- Requires the use of special tools for cultivation maintenance and transportation of plants and repair of landscape equipment.
- Applying chemicals and water to plants turf or plant collection.

Recruitment Range: $33902-$47615

- Considerable knowledge of the horticultural practices and techniques applicable to the layout and upkeep of formal gardens and grounds.
- Considerable knowledge of ornamental shrubs plants and flowers and their uses in landscape work.
- Ability to adjust and make minor mechanical repairs to equipment such as tractors mowers disks and rakes.
- Ability to supervise and maintain effective working relationships with crew and other grounds personnel.
MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES:
- Strong attention to detail.
- Great customer service skills. Strong interpersonal/ human relations skills and ability to work collaboratively with others.
Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in grounds upkeep; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
