Job Description

We are seeking a Junior GIS Developer / GIS Specialist to support a GIS data solutions team in maintaining GIS applications managing geospatial data and providing technical GIS support.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with ArcGIS Pro ArcGIS Online GIS databases Python SQL and geospatial data automation. This position involves working with spatial data developing maps and web-based GIS applications performing data quality control and supporting GIS-related solutions.

Responsibilities

• Collect manage and analyze geospatial data from various sources.
• Create detailed maps charts and reports using GIS software.
• Perform geospatial data cleaning manipulation validation and quality control.
• Support the integration of spatial data with other datasets for analytical projects.
• Evaluate GIS data tools and web platforms to identify errors quality issues and opportunities for improvement.
• Maintain and update GIS databases datasets metadata and technical documentation.
• Provide GIS-related technical support and assistance to users.
• Collaborate with product managers designers developers and business users to define and implement geospatial data visualization and analysis solutions.
• Assist with maintaining GIS-based web applications.
• Research GIS tools technologies and industry best practices.
• Support automation of recurring geospatial processes using Python ModelBuilder or similar technologies.
• Assist with troubleshooting GIS data applications and web mapping solutions.

Required Skills

• 1 year of experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro.
• 1 year of experience with ArcGIS Online including data management map creation and application building.
• Basic understanding of spatial analysis and cartography principles.
• 1 year of experience with database management tools and formats such as Oracle and/or PostgreSQL/PostGIS.
• Basic knowledge and experience with linear referencing systems (LRS) in GIS and tabular formats.
• 1 year of experience automating geospatial processes using Python ModelBuilder or similar technologies.
• Understanding of basic programming concepts.
• Strong problem-solving and attention-to-detail skills.
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Highly Desired

• Experience with Python and SQL particularly in a GIS environment.
• Experience working with geospatial databases and spatial SQL.
• Experience with GIS data processing transformation and automation.

Desired

• Web mapping experience particularly in an AWS environment.
• Experience with Mapbox.
• Familiarity with R HTML and JSON.
• Understanding of programming fundamentals and web-based GIS technologies.

Work Requirements

• Hybrid position - 3 days per week onsite in Richmond VA.
• Onsite requirement is mandatory; no exceptions.
• Candidate must physically reside within the United States for the duration of the assignment.
• Ability to work collaboratively with GIS development and business teams.
