GHD has an opportunity for a mid-levelEnvironmental Engineer/Geologist/Hydrogeologistto work with our Contaminated Assessment and Remediation (CAR) group as a CAR professional based in our Des Moines Iowa office. If you are a self-motivated professional with excellent communication and technical skills federal/state/local environmental regulatory knowledge and seeking a growth-oriented role this opportunity may be for you! The role includes a mix of field office and project management responsibilities.
Working with an energetic and high performing team this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
Using knowledge of various engineering and scientific disciplines may collect synthesize study report and recommend action based on data derived from measurements or observations of soil water and other sources. Work may include groundwater investigations regulatory reporting client interfacing and project management. .
This role is expected to have approximately 25% travel and field work including groundwater sampling and subcontractor oversight. Field work may require lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. Most travel is within Iowa and Nebraska. Most projects you will be working on center on groundwater characterization and reporting. Across our office we work on many other projects including waste management environmental compliance and remediation.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical and project management services to our existing and future clients on a variety of projects.
- Prepare technical correspondence project proposals technical reports work plans and project specifications including cost estimates and budgets.
- Data compilation reduction interpretation evaluation/comparison to environmental regulatory standards.
- Interact with internal and external clients contractors and service providers.
- Conduct or direct environmental sampling and monitoring for various media and contaminants of concern by following established procedures.
- Participate in a proactive safety culture of continuous improvement.
- Client engagement and stewardship.
- Complex problem solving as it relates to environmental characterization.
- Balancing the triangle of scope schedule and budget to produce the best results possible for our clients.
- Develop and maintain diverse professional networks spanning the globe and multitudes of disciplines.
- Engage in opportunities in a wide range of environmental and geographical settings.
Education
- Bachelors degree or masters degree in environmental engineering geology or hydrogeology or closely related experience.
Experience and Requirements
- 3-5 years experience including a mix of field data evaluation and interpretation and technical report writing. We will consider greater experience for this role or a similar role.
- Professional designation/license or progress toward such designation (e.g. EIT.) a plus.
- Experience with solid waste or coal combustion residual (CCR) management a plus.
- Experience preparing regulatory reports.
- Working knowledge of methods and procedures for site characterization hydrogeologic analysis and remediation of contaminants in groundwater.
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
