Essential Job Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Physical presence is an essential function of this job.
- Assists students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments (e.g. read stories listen to students read provide writing assistancereinforce English lessons provide spelling practice computer learning programs etc.) in order to practice and/or reinforce learningconcepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
- Communicates with supervising instructional staff professional support personnel and parents/guardians in order to assist in evaluating progress and/or implementing academic objectives.
- Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel (e.g. performs screenings oral/written testing etc.) in order to assist them in the implementation of curriculum and teaching methodologies.
- Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom playground field trips library lunchroom bus loading/unloading etc.) in order to provide a safe and positive learning experience. May escort students to and from the lunchroom; monitors students in the cafeteria and hallways keeping noise levels reasonable; reports discipline problems to cafeteria monitor and/or teachers; and may ensure tables and table areas are kept clean.
- Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents fights appropriate and inappropriate social behaviorViolations of rules safety conditions etc.) to communicate information to the appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
- Performs general administrative tasks (e.g. laminating making posters making copies bulletin boards filing newsletters etc.) in orderto assist teachers with instructional material.
- May assist in daily cleaning and organization of the classroom.
- May supervise class in teachers absence and may substitute for short periods when substitutes are unavailable. Complies with all policies established by the district state and federal law.
