Job Summary
The First-Class Stationary Engineer is located in Gaithersburg MD and operates monitors maintains and repairs industrial utility plant equipment that provides steam generation chilled water production compressed air and electrical generation services. This position supports 24-hour operation of critical infrastructure systems while ensuring safe efficient and uninterrupted utility plant performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate andmonitorhigh-pressure steam generation equipment and associated auxiliary systems.
- Maintain proper steam pressure water levels feedwater controls and combustion efficiency.
- Conduct chemical testing water treatment activities and blowdown adjustmentsrequiredtomaintainsystem performance.
- Operate andmonitorchilled water production systems cooling towers heat exchangers and associated distribution equipment.
- Operate andmaintainair compressors air dryers and compressed air distribution systems.
- Operate andmonitorcombined heat and power (CHP) or cogeneration equipment including associated steam and electrical generation systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections troubleshooting and corrective repairs on plant equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair digital pneumatic and electrical control systems.
- Repair pumps valves piping systems and related mechanical equipment.
- Monitor system alarms and respond to abnormal operating conditions and emergencies.
- Maintainaccurateoperating logs maintenance records inspection reports and shift turnover documentation.
- Perform housekeeping duties tomaintainsafe and orderly work areas.
- Comply withall safety requirements lockout/tagout procedures PPE requirements and operational standards.
- Remain onsite during assigned shifts andparticipatein rotating schedules weekends holidays and approved overtime coverage asrequired.
Equipment Responsibilities
- High-pressure steam boilers and associated feedwater systems.
- Centrifugal chillers and chilled water production systems.
- Cooling towers and condenser water systems.
- Air compressors and compressed air systems.
- Combined heat and power (CHP) / cogeneration equipment.
- Pumps valves heat exchangers control systems and ancillary utility plant equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Maryland Grade 1 (First-Class Stationary Engineer) Licenserequired.
- Current EPA Universal CFC Certificationrequired.
- Minimum two (2) years of independent operating experience as a First-Class Stationary Engineer on comparable industrial equipment.
- Experience with industrial boiler operations central utility plant systems chilled water production and cogeneration systems.
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical electrical and control system problems.
- Working knowledge of computerized control systems pneumatic systems and electrical controls.
- Ability to obtain andmaintainall required site access credentials and security clearances.
- Ability to work rotating shifts in a 24/7 operating environment.
