Job Goal(s):

The primary job goal of the Fire Science Program Assistant is to assist the Fire Science

Academy class with practical oversight in regard to skills and career development for students

entering industry.



Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma and Industry Credentials Required
  • Associates Degree Preferred

Certification:

  • Firefighter II Certification Required
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification Required
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification Preferred
  • EMR Certification Preferred
  • (Other industry certifications/licenses will be considered)

Work Experience:

Successful experience working in the Fire Service field preferred; experience working with HSstudents preferred.

  • Ability and desire to work successfully with high school students and staff.
  • Ability to motivate students to perform at their maximum potential.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Proficient with technology for instruction student management & communication.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Act as a delegated instructor who teaches classroom laboratory or clinical skills under the direction of the instructor.
  • Attend communications meetings with instructors.
  • Assist with maintenance of task lists.
  • Assist with the daily classroom supervision of students.
  • Assist with recording daily class attendance.
  • Assist in maintaining student files.
  • Organize class field trips and job shadow schedule and function as a student chaperone as needed.
  • Assist with class inventory control and supply requisition.
  • Participate on the Advisory Committee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the administration or instructor.
  • Valid drivers license required.
  • Fire Instructor 1 or the desire to obtain preferred.

Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
