Job Summary
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing Thornes facilities building systems utilities and production equipment to support safe reliable and efficient operations. This role performs preventive and corrective maintenance across a variety of mechanical electrical plumbing HVAC and facility systems helping ensure manufacturing and business operations run with minimal disruption.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on facility infrastructure utilities and building systems including electrical plumbing carpentry mechanical and HVAC equipment.
- Complete routine service requests equipment inspections and preventive maintenance activities in accordance with established schedules safety standards and maintenance procedures.
- Troubleshoot diagnose and repair facility and production equipment to minimize downtime and support reliable manufacturing operations.
- Install modify and maintain facility systems and equipment including supporting minor remodeling projects and equipment installations.
- Coordinate with outside contractors and service providers to support repairs maintenance activities and facility improvement projects.
- Partner with Production Engineering Quality and other cross-functional teams to support equipment installations system modifications and operational improvements.
- Assist in the development implementation and continuous improvement of preventive maintenance procedures Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintenance documentation.
- Maintain assigned equipment and facility areas in an inspection-ready condition ensuring compliance with cGMP requirements safety standards and housekeeping expectations.
- Support facility expansion equipment upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency reliability and capacity.
- Respond to maintenance emergencies and participate in the on-call rotation as assigned to support business continuity.
- Monitor facility conditions identify potential equipment or infrastructure issues and proactively recommend corrective actions to prevent operational disruptions.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and communicate project status equipment issues and maintenance priorities to supervisors and stakeholders.
- Promote a culture of safety teamwork continuous improvement and operational excellence while performing other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associates degree in a technical field completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent trade experience preferred.
- Trade certification or licensing in electrical HVAC plumbing mechanical or a related skilled trade is preferred.
- Minimum of four years of experience in commercial or industrial facility maintenance required.
- At least two years of hands-on experience in two or more of the following skilled trades:
- Electrical
- HVAC
- Plumbing
- Mechanical systems
- Carpentry
- Pneumatics
- Previous experience in pharmaceutical biotechnology food manufacturing or another cGMP-regulated environment is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of building systems utilities preventive maintenance equipment troubleshooting and facility repair practices.
- Ability to interpret equipment manuals technical drawings Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintenance documentation.
- Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or work order management systems is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook Word and Excel.
- Working knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) workplace safety standards and maintenance best practices within a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose equipment and facility issues and implement effective solutions.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple maintenance activities and respond to changing operational needs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across Maintenance Production Engineering Quality and outside contractors.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety quality continuous improvement and customer service.
- High attention to detail with a proactive approach to identifying and preventing maintenance issues before they impact operations.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position and move throughout manufacturing warehouse and office environments during scheduled shifts and overtime as required.
- Ability to frequently walk climb ladders stoop kneel crouch crawl bend and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to safely wear a half-mask or full-face respirator for extended periods in accordance with Thornes Respiratory Protection Program.
- Ability to operate hand tools power tools maintenance equipment and machinery while performing repetitive grasping lifting reaching and twisting movements.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and safely carry materials while ascending or descending ladders.
- Ability to read technical documentation distinguish small print communicate effectively with team members and work in a moderate-noise manufacturing environment.
