Job Summary

Position SummaryThe Electrician Lead is responsible for installing maintaining troubleshooting repairing and inspecting electrical systems and equipment throughout the Universitys campus. This position supports the safe reliable and efficient operation of academic residential administrative athletic and healthcare facilities. The Electrician Lead performs skilled electrical work in accordance with applicable codes regulations and University standards while contributing to preventative maintenance programs emergency response activities energy conservation initiatives and continuous operational improvement Duties & ResponsibilitiesInstall maintain troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and equipment including:Power distribution systemsLighting and lighting controlsEmergency power systemsMotor controlsVariable Frequency Drives (VFDs)TransformersSwitchgear and panelboardsFire alarm interfacesElectrical components associated with HVAC and mechanical systemsDiagnose electrical issues using testing and diagnostic equipment and implement corrective preventive predictive and corrective maintenance on electrical systems and new electrical circuits conduit wiring fixtures outlets and equipment as campus facilities and equipment to identify deficiencies safety concerns and maintenance and interpret:Electrical drawingsBlueprintsOne-line diagramsSchematicsSpecificationsTechnical manualsRespond to service requests and emergency calls promptly and campus construction renovation and capital improvement compliance with National Electrical Code (NEC) Connecticut State Electrical Code OSHA regulations and University work activities with Facilities Operations staff contractors vendors and campus Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to document work labor materials and equipment with operating and maintaining emergency generators and associated transfer switch in on-call rotation as required and respond to after-hours University sustainability and energy conservation initiatives through efficient operation and optimization of electrical inventory of electrical materials tools and other tasks assigned by the manager to meet the universitys Skills Abilities & Other AttributesHigh school diploma or equivalent required; accredited electrical trade school vocational program apprenticeship program or equivalent technical training preferred. Connecticut E-1 Unlimited Electrical Journeyperson License required. Minimum 5 years of commercial institutional healthcare or higher education electrical experience preferred. Strong knowledge of electrical theory power distribution systems motor controls and electrical safety practices. Thorough understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable state and local codes. Experience working with generators transfer switches and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems preferred. Knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures and electrical safety standards. Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS/BAS) preferred. Proficiency with computers mobile devices and work order management systems. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving Working ConditionsExposure to energized electrical equipment and circuits while performing testing troubleshooting maintenance and repair may be performed in electrical and mechanical rooms utility tunnels crawl spaces above-ceiling areas confined spaces rooftops and other restricted-access to varying environmental conditions including heat cold humidity dust noise vibration and inclement use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including arc-flash protective clothing insulated gloves safety glasses hard hats hearing protection and other safety equipment as may involve climbing ladders scaffolding and personnel lifts; working at heights; and working around high-voltage electrical distribution equipment generators transformers switchgear and transfer be able to lift carry push and pull electrical equipment materials tools and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance for heavier be available to respond to electrical and life-safety emergencies and participate in an on-call rotation which may include evenings weekends holidays planned utility shutdowns and other work outside normal business be able to safely perform work in occupied campus facilities while minimizing disruption to University -Employment RequirementsAll offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background accordance with Connecticut General Statutes 31-51v applicants selected for this position will be required to undergo a pre-employment drug test as a condition of employment.
