The Novelis Bay Minette team is seeking an Environmental Waste Management Coordinator. This position is responsible for the development implementation and administration of all waste management programs across the facility. The role ensures compliance with federal state and local environmental regulations governing hazardous waste universal waste special waste recyclable materials and industrial by-products generated during aluminum manufacturing processes.
The Environmental Waste Management Coordinator serves as the site subject matter expert for waste characterization storage transportation disposal recycling pollution prevention and waste minimization initiatives. This position works closely with operations maintenance contractors and waste vendors to ensure environmental compliance while supporting Novelis sustainability objectives.
- Develop implement and manage hazardous non-hazardous universal and recyclable waste management programs.
- Ensure compliance with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) EPA regulations Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) requirements and applicable permit conditions.
- Perform hazardous waste determinations and profiling activities for all waste streams generated throughout facility operations.
- Maintain compliance for satellite accumulation areas central accumulation areas waste storage locations and waste transfer operations.
- Oversee waste container management labeling inspections storage and shipping requirements.
- Manage hazardous waste manifests land disposal restriction documentation waste profiles certificates of disposal and associated regulatory records.
- Prepare and submit required annual biennial and regulatory waste reports.
- Track and analyze waste generation metrics recycling performance and disposal costs.
- Highlight opportunities to reduce landfill disposal through recycling reuse recovery and waste minimization initiatives.
- Support corporate sustainability objectives through continuous improvement projects focused on reducing environmental impacts.
- Develop waste reduction strategies for production waste maintenance waste packaging waste and other industrial by-products.
- Coordinate recycling programs for aluminum scrap dross spent materials packaging materials electronics batteries lamps and other recoverable resources.
- Conduct routine inspections of waste storage areas accumulation points and recycling locations.
- Lead corrective actions for identified environmental compliance issues.
- Support internal audits and regulatory inspections related to waste management activities.
- Maintain documentation systems to demonstrate regulatory compliance and audit readiness.
- Adhere to and support company quality environmental health & safety and certification standards including ISO 9001:2015 ISO 14001:2015 ISO 45001:2018 IATF 16949:2016 and ASI Certifications where applicable.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelors degree in Environmental Science Environmental Engineering Chemistry Sustainability or a related field.
- Three to five years of environmental compliance or waste management experience in manufacturing industrial recycling or chemical processing environments.
- Strong knowledge of RCRA EPA regulations waste characterization hazardous waste management and recycling programs.
- Experience managing waste manifests profiles regulatory reporting and environmental documentation.
- Strong organizational analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and environmental compliance software systems.
- Ability to work effectively with production teams contractors regulators and waste service providers.
- HAZWOPER Certification.
- Experience managing Large Quantity Generator (LQG) hazardous waste programs.
- Experience with industrial recycling operations and sustainability initiatives.
- Professional certifications such as CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) or similar environmental credentials.

Novelis newly announced Bay Minette facility will be located 35 miles northeast of Mobile AL and 45 miles west of Pensacola FL and is expected to create approximately 1000 high-paying advanced careers in modern manufacturing.
