Job Summary
Environmental Inspector - Pipeline Projects
The Environmental Inspector is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations permits and company policies during pipeline construction and maintenance activities. They monitor and inspect project sites to identify and mitigate potential environmental impacts and ensure adherence to approved environmental protection plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and interpret environmental impact statements permits and regulatory requirements applicable to pipeline projects.
- Conduct pre-construction environmental surveys and assessments to identify sensitive areas habitats and potential environmental concerns.
- Monitor and inspect construction activities including clearing grading trenching and restoration to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and approved plans.
- Inspect and monitor erosion and sediment control measures such as silt fences hay bales and detention ponds to prevent soil erosion and water pollution.
- Observe and document wildlife and vegetation impacts and ensure proper implementation of mitigation measures such as wildlife crossings and revegetation efforts.
- Conduct inspections of wetland and waterbody crossings to ensure compliance with permit conditions and protection of aquatic resources.
- Monitor and inspect the handling storage and disposal of hazardous materials and waste to prevent spills and contamination.
- Maintain detailed inspection reports documenting environmental compliance issues identified and corrective actions taken.
- Coordinate with project managers contractors and regulatory agencies to address environmental concerns and resolve non-compliance issues.
- Provide environmental training and guidance to construction crews on best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in pre-construction meetings progress meetings and final inspections to ensure environmental compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Environmental Science Biology Ecology or a related field or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in environmental inspection or monitoring preferably with pipeline or oil and gas projects.
- In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations permits and industry best practices related to pipeline construction and operations.
- Familiarity with environmental impact assessment processes mitigation techniques and restoration practices.
- Strong understanding of erosion control stormwater management and spill prevention techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and coordination with project teams and regulatory agencies.
- Proficiency in using field monitoring equipment and data collection tools.
- Ability to work outdoors and navigate rough terrain in various weather conditions.
- Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- Relevant certifications or licenses (e.g. Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner) preferred.
